Hi,

I have download some mods some are zip files, rar files and mod files. I know how to extract zip and rar files but where do they go so I can then use them in-game.

Unzip to: ... My Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 5\Mods.

You don't have to do anything with the files if you downloaded from the Mod Browser in-game. Just click on the "Installed Mods" tab, click "Install mods" at the bottom of the window, then click the green check buttons to enable/disable the installed mods.
