Mouse Cursor Freeze

Hey everybody. I've been reading these forums since the release of Civ IV and have found some great (and entertaining) posts. Since this is my first post I'll get right to my problem...

I was having the sound skip error (when the sound mutes for a couple seconds during the intro and wonder movies) and I read that installing an Omega Driver would fix it. I did and it didn't help so I uninstalled it and reset and updated my video and sound drivers. Now my mouse cursor freezes in game (and sometimes on desktop). Any suggestions on how to fix this?

My specs:
AMD Athlon 1.8 GHZ
Nvidia Geforce 4 MX 440 with AGP 8X version 6.14
512MB RAM
Realtek AC97 Audio

Thanks!

Check to see who made your card - Nvidia or someone else using their chips? There may be a better driver if it is somebody else.

Also, try turning down the sound acceleration in the Sound tab of DirectX Diagnostic (start-run-dxdiag).

There is a post that several of us made yesterday addressing these very problems. I personally have not had any success with any of these remedies. I also have problems now with the cursor freezing on the desktop, which is completely new and ridiculous. This game has infected my computer.
