So, after seeing this pop up blink at me for months, I finally cracked and just installed that Windows XP Service pack 2...

Now I have this problem though... sometimes my cursor just moves for no reason. It slowly moves up? Weird stuff. I have a logitech mx500 and didn't have that problem until I installed this service pack. Did a Bill Gates poltergeist crawl into my computer or is there another reason why this is happening??

Logitech MX500 is an optical mouse according to my search.

Clean your mouse's lens, or the surface your mouse's moving on.

I also have this problem, though mine is not an optical mouse. It is a wireless Advent mouse that came with the computer. Any ideas? Its really annoying

Unless it's got a ball in it, it's an optical mouse.

And it is written, "Thou shalt use a mouse pad with optical mice unless ye desire thou'st pointer to drift".

Take the ball out and scrape all the crud off the rollers.

Tried that, I dont think its a problem with the mechanics of the mouse, as sometimes it will do the strange cursor movement when I'm not even touvhing the thing.

re install the driver for the mouse. Alot of times after sp2 installed mice/keyboards need thier drivers redone.

and ive NEVER used a mouse pad, and I only use optical mice.....ive never had pointer drift.

I have to use a mouse pad (actually, it's a manilla envelope) for my optical mouse at home. My computer desk has some pattern that the optical mouse doesn't like.

But at work I've not used one for a long time, and it works just fine.
