I read in the users manual, I think, that it is possible to move the capital from one city to the next. However, the manual is quite lacking in the instructions as to how to do it.

Any ideas

Simply build a palace in a different city, the palace city is your capital.

Two additions:

Building a palace works like building a wonder - you can rush it with GL only.
The bigger your civ is, the more expensive is your new palace (max. 1000 shields afaik).

The theory is this: You want to build the Forbidden Palace in a city that is somewhat far away from your capital in order to maximize its benefit. However, that is not always possible. Therefore, you build the Forbidden Palace in the best place possible at the time. Then later in the game you move your Palace to another city so that the Palace and the Forbidden Palace are far apart. You can't move the Forbidden Palace once you build it, but you can move your Palace at any time.

Can you only build one palace? Because when it is finished, in another town it says you can build another or does building it again just change the city that it is in.

When my people start asking for the forbidden palace I start seriously looking to see what is the "center" of my empire at the time, or best guess where that center could be once the forbidden palace is built. At that moment my lands should be fairly free of corruption.

Sooner or later a large war will take place over sees. If I get a great leader in this war I will seriously thinking of moving my palace into the war zone to speed production of units in that place.

if you start building it in a new city, when completed it will replace the one in the older city. You can only have one at a time. But you can keep building a new one in a new location if you want.

Apart from from the more orthodox approaches (manual and GL build) there is the abandon city button.

If your capital is in a really crappy location it can be abandoned and the capital will jump to the next most powerful city. WARNING this has some unexpected results as thepower of a city takes into account size and improvements so it may not be to where you are expecting.

Dare I suggest the use of the abandon button again :p

No. Just as a civ quits generating culture from a wonder when it loses it in a war - but keeps the culture the wonder has already generated - so should you keep the culture that the old palace generated.

Thanks,
I am always worried about culture, so I have never moved my Palace. This changes things quite a bit. I have always wanted to move the palace to my iron works citys...

The only thing you stand to lose is the one extra culture per turn produced by the 1000-yr doubling effect on the palace. When you rebuild it, you'll be back to just one culture per turn on the building again.
