How important is MP in Civ4 to you? Where do think the time needs to be spent? Personally, I've yet to play a MP game w/ PTW or C3C, so I'd be fine w/ Firaxis's energies spent working solely on the SP game.

you have a point i havent played one but i never play MP games i always have seen all Civ games as SP games

I don't play MP (I have tried it). It just isn't as much fun to me. But then, I am a *builder*. I don't treat Civ3 as a wargame (it's not!), but as a civilization building simulation.*Most* of the MP-ers I have seen play the game for the combat. Just not my style.

Give me a compatent AI, and let me build my civilization in the way I want. I don't mind going to war when it makes sense, such as over a strategic resource, but I don't like having to worry about xenophobic kids who just want the pleasure of destroying you as quickly as possible.

Padma, you took the words right out of my mouth. And you said it better than I could have.

MP can be fun with CIV, but the game takes forever to play a whole game in a single outing, unless it is pretty much total war. You could have settings to make the game coopertive, so victories would be joint, then you could stay as a builder. When I play with friends, we have a rule not to attack for a certain amount of time, allowing each of us to munch on the AI, and build up our empires before total war.

If they had it for playing random players on a website, they should set it up so each game lasts an hour a day, or other user set amount, and then it could either be continued daily, bidaily, or weekly. Another thing about it, with the forums, you could meet people that you are somewhat familiar with, and would know if they sound like someone who would be fun to play with. Still, now that I am out of college, other responsibilities seem to take over.

I've played multiplayer in MOO1, and CTP, and it was lot of fun.

But, it takes an enormous amount of time, and therefore, there should be the chance to switch from network mode to PBEM mode to hotseat mode back and forth, to allow for the most convenient way to do it.
And, they should try everything to make cheating almost impossible. You can never avoid it completely (if one is going to use a hex editor, he will be able to cheat), but you should make it as hard as possible

There is an active MP group of Civ players. I think it would be wrong to exclude them. I had fun the few times I tried it.

The issue with MP is that it is relatively straight forward tp build in from day one and very hard to tack on later. Firaxis got a lot of complaints (probably deserved, based on the state of it in the box) on their making an expansion whose main goal was to implement MP.

I thi9nk they should either go for on day one or forget it totally for Civ4.
