multiplayer crash

whenever my game attempts to connect to the internet it just locks up, the entire computer freezes save the mouse, ctrl alt del doesn't work nor does the window key. the music loves to keep playing, the world in the backround freezes... civ and gamespy are cleared through the firewall too...

I have the same problem, there are a couple of threads here devoted to it actually. However, it seems no one knows the answer to the problem and very little is being done to fix it.

One final plea for help upon the great civfanatics forum:

PLEASE someone help with this problem! I pre-ordered this game with my hard earned cash and I long to finally play multiplayer(just got new computer thats able to play multiplayer)

Could it be something presenting a 'pop up' request when you try to connect?

I don't think so, when I first went on multiplayer(it worked when I didn't have the patch), windows asked me to grant access through its firewall, so I think that problem is taken care of. Unless maybe I would have to regrant access after using the patch?

well i downloaded the patch right away and granted internet after... it might be something on the patch, but i kinda doubt that.

Alright, well I've solved my problem. All I had to do was create a new account and then multiplayer worked great! Hopefully that will solve your problem, it did for me
