Multiplayer game stuck on 'Please wait'

Just got to around 100 turns in an internet game with a friend, when we came across this bug where we have both clicked 'next turn' , and both of us have 'please wait' but nothing happens here at all, even after waiting 5 minutes. Up until this point it was quick between turns.

If we click on the 'please wait' it goes back to 'next turn' and we can move stuff again, we just can't progress to the next turn.

Saving the game, quitting and reloading does not fix this - any ideas anyone on what the problem is here? Spent the last hour or so scouring the internets for ideas but got nothing useful :/

Just bought this to play with said friend and a bit peeved that I cannot do so...

How long did you wait for it to go? My girlfriend and I had an issue the other night where, when I circumnavigated the globe, the game froze up for about 10 minutes and eventually went to a load screen. When it was done, we finally figured out it was rearranging the map to create the looping "globe" effect. Is it possible that this is what your issue is?
