I'm using the 1.52 patch and trying to play multiplayer with other people using the same version, but when I connect to a game I get a "Version is not the same as host" error. The game still works, but when we come back to a game and with a saved game, when we go into the game I get an error saying "The save file you have selected is protected to ensure the assets in your mod folder are not changed". Please help!

Are you using any mods at all? Sounds like it thinks you're running with a mod the other people don't have. If you haven't then I'm not sure what could be causing this.

No i'm not running any mods. I even tried deleting the mods folder and it didn't make any difference.

I dont play Multiplayer - but the forum below maybe of help to you

EDIT: bad link - sorry - gotothe Multiplayer forum (via home page) they may be able to help

Did you have this when installing patch: Error 1706.No valid source could be found for product Sid Meier's Civilization 4. The Windows Installer cannot continue." ?

Do you have SP1? SP2? No SP?
Do you have anything non-standards things installed on system? Style-XP type programs, antywirus, firewall, office, CD-copy/emulation stuff... anything that is changing much of system files and possibly work in background?

I've got the same problem (and the message about protection), and also can't load one (old - 1952 year) MP savegame in multiplayer (but, what's funny, it works in solo play - so much for any protection!)

Nah I didn't have any problems when I installed the patch. I have service pack 2, and norton running in the background. There are a couple of funny things I didn't mention originally, When I was looking around the file, there was a text file that seemed to be saying I was missing some font files for the introduction or something.
