I have had Civ since 1993 and have been playing it off and on since then, but had to buy it again because a friend of mine lost my original cd.(that also had "Mantis" on it, something i will never see again) I was pleased to see that the game was still mostly the same, still thankfully the DOS version - I will NEVER play winciv, but the cheats no longer worked. Now i may seem like a whiny little baby, whining about cheats, but the map reveal cheat was very important late in the game. Whats worse than destroying all enemy civs only to have one appear in a place already explored but still unmanned. So suddenly the game turns into this bizarre treasure hunt, where tanks and battle ships scour the map for a militia in a size one city.
Please, is there some way i can degrade my version of the game or is there a cheat that works on the newest version? Civ takes enough time without respawn silliness. Much thanks.

I don't know for that unpatching thing, but I just remind you that if you have the Apollo Wonder, you'll see anything, any city, and it's updated every turn. So even if a new city is founded you'll see it the following turn, although you won't see it's population increase (you'll have to approach it). But's that's sufficient to spot them all.
Plus, if you destroy civs in a quite advanced period, then there will be NO respawn at all!

As much as I hate to say it..the mongol is right :)

Besides..playing tanks chase the phalanx defended city is fun....especially when it takes 4 or 5 tanks to take it out :D

The horror: You find a city and one transport with two tanks find the lonely city. Both tanks are defeated by the fortified phalanx. Then it takes 20 more turns to take another few tanks to that island with that one city.
Score ends lower than you had hoped for... :(

It's part of the fun to bring a full armada with artillery, tanks, bombers, battleships to defeat this last city.
