Hey all,

My dvd-player does not detect my DVD from Civ4.

The DVD-player starts ticking when i insert the DVD and that's all it does. It's a LG DVD-rom drive.

My pc meets the requirements of the game, but does not detect the DVD.

Does someone know what this problem is? Because my laptop (Acer) does detect the DVD, but that one shows a black map and eyeballs and teeth as a face.

If the problem depends on the dvd-drive, could someone tell me which one does detect the DVD?

Please help me!

Well, i cannot even install the dvd.. so that's very weird..

I also have 1 DVD, so that is the European version..

Does someone have had that problem and managed to fix it?

Please tell me!

There seem to be a few issues with the European DVD not being recognised: I managed to install the game from mine but it refuses to actually load and play the game. There are some work arounds which work for some people but not consistently: I'd suggest having a little mooch through the threads here. Good luck!

Personally I've not been able to get mine to work at all as yet, although I've found a way for it to crash out more quickly and not disbale my DVD drive in the process!

So does anyone know about a not too expensive American site where I can buy the game (that ships overseas)?

I'm having exact same problem i took the game back first time and they gave me another copy and it's doin exact same thing just not reading the DVD and i've checked my drive so i kno it isn't that. I would appreciate some help as well please !...

 wish i could be playing civ4!

This is a problem that a lot of people are having. LG DVDs seem particularly prone to it. Some people have solved it by updating the firmware of the DVD drive, others by just waiting a long time until the DVD is recongised. The DVD drive should be the first drive letter if you have more than one, some people have said it works if the DVD is the Master not the Slave Drive. SD4Hide works for other, Windows compatability mode for still more. The thread mentioned in the post above is where most of it has been explored.

Nothing so far works for me, although it read the disc to install it, it just won't recognise the disc to play the game :(.

hi guys

the problem i believe is clearly safety
you see i ran a program protection id5 which verified that civ 4 is using safedisk 4 protection... u can find it at gameburnworld.

the onlything is that i dont know how to work around it
someone told me sd4hide is a good start but he didnt also know how o use it

so anyone pls that knows how to get over this mess...

From what I can tell about SD4Hide (SD4 stands for SafeDisk 4) you download it (google for it) install it, run it, select hide (don't close SD4hide), run Civ and finally select restore in SD4 hide when you exit Civ. But I can't run it (it doesn't work on Windows ME or 98) so I can't give you more details than that.

Before you try that there is a fix from Microsoft for Windows XP. This may or may not work for you, again the link is in the cannot locate the DVD thread here

nopr furie that didnt work for me...
thanks for the tip though
did i mention that it is not found in my player as well
when i double my computer it shows that the player is empty
