mysterious explosions

I am playing Civ III for the first time and am puzzled by one of the animated graphics. Near several of my cities there are a continuous round of what look like explosions. I have no units in these spots, and recce shoews no barbarian or opponent units either. Does anyone know what these are, and whether i need to worry about them?

Is there a "We love the king" day? if so, what you are seeing is most likely the firework that's coming from the city celebrating the event

Ah, the classic newbie question. Those "Explosions" are fireworks because your city is in We Love the King Day. Don't worry, its good, its when alot of your citizens are happy.
