N.Y. Assembly votes to ban handheld cell phones while driving

This is great news to hear. People driving while on their cell phones are not only dangerous, but incredibly in-considerate and rude to their fellow motorists. We'll have an all around cell phone ban in cars some day soon.

Totally agree, dude. unless its a legitimate emergency, people should pull over to talk - unless its a hands-free set, then they can just look stupid yapping to nobody.

But really.....I'm kind of annoyed.....but kind of happy. Cell phones drivers are REALLY annoying, but I sometimes drive with the cell phone (well once...anyway)

Anyway....over all I think I'm happy.

It's GREAT news to me. I'm sick and tired of sharing the road with corporate morons -who can hardly drive in the first place- talking on their phone, eating a burger, and driving at the same time. It just makes me so ANGRY I want to go find every cell phone tower in the city and tear them all down.

And what pisses me off even more is that we tried to pass a similar bill here but it was struck down by some legislator in Quallcomm's or Nokia's or Qwest's bankroll.

Yeah, just last night going into the tunnel in boston, this freakin idiot in his shiny new mercedes "suv" pulls up next to me on his phone and proceeds to come within inches of ramming me because the focker wasnt even looking! If not for my trusty horn and a quick swerve, the yuppy would have hit me! I was so fired up at that point that I'm quite sure if he had hit me, that I would have taken his phone and literally stuffed it up his fat ass!

I say we should put all the peole who drive while talking on the phone onto a lonely strech of mountain road at the same time and let them kill themselves and each other. Then this issue would just disappear.

Oh really cedric? The cops don't enforce it there?

It is a difficult thing to regulate, but a few good examples of people getting fined should help. What also might help is the threat of adding points to a persons license. A guy driving with a cell phone is more likely to cause an accident then one speeding slightly. If you get a speeding ticket, you're gonna get a point or two tacked on, so why not adda point or two for driving with a phone?

Just an idea.

They have similar legislation down here, and it is generally a good thing. But sometimes there are emergency situations which IMO merit answering your phone, but the handsfree option seems to be best for that, even if you do look like a Trekkie.
