(NAB) Horseman upgrade

I've just played my first 'corp' game, and horseman will not upgrade to knight despite having iron, barracks and enough gold.
Has anyone else experienced this?

No. But I also had horses (or possibly played Japan...).

Surely horses are not required to upgrade?

Yes they are. To upgrade to a specific unit, you must have the strategic resources for the final unit--in this case, iron and horses.

Yeah, look it at this way: your ancient warrior might just do fine on a pony, but you need a stronger horse for the heavy armour wearing knight.



and don't ask me why that ancient chap is not called ponyman...
