Whenever I play as one of the locked alliance members (Britain or France), the first thing I always do is go to other nations and sign a military alliance with them against my enemy. Surprisingly, every other country is willing to pay me huge amounts of gold and luxuries in return for signing an alliance against a nation they're not even at war with. This almost seems like cheating to me. Has anyone else noticed this?

Yes.

Also, you can get those nations to trade most or all of thier cities in those deals. This will trigger a quick win.

i tried getting a city in those military alliance trades. didn't get one single taker

it has to be done on the first turn and cities is all you can ask for in those military alliance trades.

This is a well known bug. It is one that can be avoided if you start diplomacy in the second turn.

Will the AIs have diplomacy the 1st turn even if you don't?

If so, will this be a big disadvantage to overcome? :scan:
