Ok so recently i did a colonial game where everybody starts on the same landmass and eventually you're supposed to discover the new world for additional colonies.
But things didn't really work out as i hoped
For starters i felt it was a bit too cramped, i wanted a bit of competitive settling but the way it was it seemed most civs were struggling to even get 4 cities, although i managed to get 4 pretty good ones down which made my neighbors quite resentful as they had to settle for pretty **** locations.
Second issue was that the amount of space available was very variable, which is fine normally but when most civs only have space for 3-4 cities (and one even barely has that due to being on a tiny peninsula) against like 2 having loads of space for however many cities they want i see it as a bit of a problem
Thirdly there was a giant ass continent right below the one where everyone spawned, just ready for colonization for those that were closest, no need for caravels or anything, bit disappointing ngl :/
This also meant that my scout got every ruin that there was there since none of the ai decided to explore it at all, giving me a bunch of border growth, tech and increasing animosity with my neighbors
And lastly everyone was attacking me all the time, even those that were miles away with no real means to attack.
Now i've read a bit here on how to combat this and the one solution i found was building more military, which i don't really consider a proper solution since i felt like i had done a good job of making a decent defence force and was consistently a bit above average and going any further above would just hamper my building production too much, the ai is a bit too mil production happy i find.
Now, I'd like some suggestions if possible to improve my next game since i'm not sure i wanna finish this one but i definitely like the idea of a colonial mode
1) Is there a map best suited for this sort of gamemode so i won't have these issues? (I used the communitu_79 map, that might've been a mistake idk)
2) Is there a better solution for the endless agression of the ai?
3) Any other suggestions/tips to help or add to the experience
