I've got a few questions that I need answers to:

1: How does the game calculate your points. How the H*** does one get like 4000 points in a game?

2: In modern times, I have problems getting advances at the year they were invented in "real time". Is this normal?

Hope someone can help me... :crazyeyes

Score seems to be figured primarily on space and time. How much space you control and how quickly you get it.

To get technology faster try this:
Play at a higher level - the higher the level, the faster techs come
Trade techs with the AI civs - you'll get good money from the AI which will let you put your research higher. You can skip unnecessary advances and buy them from the AI.
Build a technology infrastructure - libraries, universities, etc. are very important

Thanks a lot! I'll try that :egypt:

your final score is calculated as the average of your score at the end of each turn. So if you end up with a dominant position at the end, you still may not win...

Always employ the tech trading strategy, regardless of level. Even at lower levels, you will be able to set your science rate at 80%+, while getting gold/turn from other civs.

Score mostly comes from happy people, so a lot of cities with large populations, all with plenty of luxuries and marketplaces + a few wonders that make happy people.

Higher level increases score too.
