Hi! I am having problem beating the computer when I play on the easiest difficulty, huge map, 16 civilizations within 2050. I usually win on best score but I want to achieve the victory by purely conquest, eliminating ALL the 16 AI players within this time frame. Any help would be much appreciated.

I can beat the AI (on tiny map and only one other player at regent level) easily curently

If you really want to get to know the game, go to Stories and tales and read some of the legendary Civ games there. I learned more by reading what the good players did than in any other way.

The time you spend will be well worth it

Legendary Games here

Legendary Stories here

Thanks mate for the answer! Really appreciated! By the way, I was supposed to type "win easily on WARLORD LEVEL ON TINY MAP WITH ONE OTHER PLAYER" not Regent level yet!

Welcome to CFC, Blanchflower!

If you're having trouble with Warlord & Regent, I'd suggest a couple of things:
  1. Play the game with a standard-sized map and standard number of opponents. Changing map sizes and number of opponents can change the game fairly significantly.
  2. Search the Stories & Tales forum for "Training Day Games" or "TDGs." These provide a whole lot of discussion about the whys of strategy.
  3. Head to the War Academy for lots of great articles, if you haven't already done so.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Can anyone tell me the grid sizes of the "standard", "large", and "huge" map options for Civ3?

I am designing a map to match the World of Greyhawk, but I need to know how many diamonds stretch east-west and north-south in order to make the map accurate.

Before anyone asks, I am away from my Civ3 computer for the next few days, otherwise I would be able to get this info myself!

Thanks.

EDIT: Mathias answered this question for me. Thanks!

Hmm, on a huge map, conquering 15 other civilizations is going to be pretty tough, simply because of the amount of area you have to cover. On a tiny map, 60 X 60, you have 3600 tiles. On a huge map, 160 X 160 you have 25,600 tiles to cover. While you are knocking out some of the civs early, the others are growing, and getting harder to knock out as well. You might want to check the completed game reports to see if anyone has ever done it. You also did not say what type of map you are playing on: Pangaea, Continents, or Archipelago. On a Pangaea, with 80% water and 3 billion years, you might pull it off due to the limited land area for cities. On continents or archipelago, I do not think that you are going to manage it.

I find that Pangaea maps actually take longer to play than the continents maps. Not sure why that is but it was very noticeable. I am not usually going for total conquest though
