negotiating with barbarians

I'm exausted trying to pull this off and have concluded that what I want is in python :sad:
what I want is seemingly simple,but obviously over my head it seems. I want the regualar barbarians to 'act' like a civ, but still be restricted as barbarians. If that makes sense. For instance If I have something they want, lots of gold or a military oriented tech, I want them to try and make me buy them off for a short time.
I do not want a playable barbarian civ... I just want to be able to negotiate with the default barbs. and have it so it's a gamble if they will even respect the peace the protection tribute (be it techs or gold) bought.


anyone have any idea about how to do this or if it's even possible atm?

I installed the "PLayable Barbarians" mod, thats all :p
We trade trade and he urges me to adopt civics and all, but theyre still constantly at war with everyone, and he doesnt get angry when you kill his troops :p (he does when you take his cities though)

(I know you said you didnt want them playable; this'll give you the effect youre looking for, just dont choose them from the Civ list!)

Are you sure you didn't have minor barbarians and the default ones? The default ones you can't have peace with or play as. The minor barbarians - IF you change them to be playable by you and/or the AI - are like a normal civ. The barbarian barbarians - IF you change them to be playable by you and/or the AI - only start with a warrior and can't build alot of things (including settlers!). They usually get killed by the default barbarians.



I can't see why it wouldn't be possible to do what you want bhiita but it would be an enormous amount of work.
 
That's what I got as well from the playable barbarian mod... a civ with the barbarian look, and the default barbarians. :hmm:
and they should be able to build settlers I think.
I guess I can try turning barbarians off and, using the monglians as a template, tweak the playable barabarian civ to be really really mean. :crazyeye:
 
You could also make events for giving them random units. Only problem would be upkeep...
 
What would be ideal is if you could treat every barbarian city as a seperate civilization. So you click on the city to open up the diplomacy window, and negotiate with that city... and so on...

This would lay the foundation for minor civilizations and a more interesting diplomatic game!
