Nobles' Club 382: Lincoln of America

Q for the experts:
Spoiler :
For me, cottages are very good in isolation. In general your cities will have lots of :food: even without farms. Especially without caste I see myself not building any green farms with or without Mids.

Caste is absolutely not required to get a lot out of early Rep. You can get a lot of value out of just running two Rep scientists per city with a library, and of course you also get the huge +3 happiness boost in your five largest cities as well. I very rarely run Caste early unless I'm playing a Spiritual leader that can switch between Caste and Slavery.

The big issue with Caste is that it really cripples production until you can run good workshops later in the game because so much of your early production comes from Slavery. Caste + Guilds is generally enough to make workshops viable, especially if you switch during a golden age. And then they are obviously awesome once you get RP and State Property.

There are situations in ISO games though where you just get the important buildings finished early and have nothing very useful to do with hammers for quite awhile. That is a situation where Caste can shine, but even that comes with some drawbacks as CoL is a pretty expensive detour from Optics, and you also have to take extra care to not ruin your Astro bulb. I think CoL + Meditation = disaster, so you need to make sure you go Poly instead of Med.

Q for the experts:

How to get the most out of pyramids? I find myself building them most frequently when I have room for a few good cities, decent food at least, and I have stone. I usually cottage the rivers and farm other things when I can. How do you decide whether to farm/ cottage? Do you switch to caste right away? Here it's not relevant bc we probably don't go CoL before astro.

Would a good rule of thumb be cottage the capital if it is at all amenable to that, but farm other cities if planning for construction/ engines breakout?
Spoiler :
Wouldn't call myself an expert, but in my game I cottaged capital, including most non-riverside grassland, and also cottaged the city I settled near sheep and floodplains. Main benefit of pyramids for me is growing, so my default is aim for happy cap asap, then work cottages and run some scientists.

Spoiler 0-151 :

Never won a game with Lincon!
SE warrior and SiP. standiung on a 2H tile made me not consider moving to stone. Turned out to be a good settle.

AH seemed like a good tech. Maybe hoarses and a good growingtile is nice. Excpesially with CHR.
Had the oasis to work and 1 extra F for clams did not seem to relevant to "rushbuild a WB". With this much food I was planning to Whip settlers from cap..

Managed to take care of the barbs with only warriors and found out pretty early that it was a ISO. And switched gears..

Not really in the mood for a ISO.. but got TGLH and mids and PHI/CHR and lots of food.. gives for some pretty ideal settings.
Just REX somewhat greedy and waited for optics for the last 2 settles. Always difficult to find the right balance between cities/growth/tech speed. But i guess its cities for a reasonable astro date at 580 AD. Even tho theres alot of tech monsters.. I'm the only with astro.. (lib went.. think maya got nationalism). Victoria is teching Astro... So the "techo situastion" means the timing was good enough i guess.

Now im just looking at the diplo.. and wondering who i should take otu.. think maybe Egypt -> Isabell - Maya!
They have lots of religious tension on their little island.

So War prep mode.. my weakest part of my game. I allways get distracted and.. everything seems to take forever :p and suddenly i have a to small army. Guess maybe just go for GA.. get some merchants and get to cannons.. and go into Police/vassalage/slavery and just whip whip whip whip!
Guess ill have a good army in no time that way! and save some GP guys for a 12 turn GA after MoM from egypt.

I'm Including my buffy save. if someone wants to practice that part of the game and show how effective it can be done :)
