Hello everyone!
I have an idea about new civilization: Kingdom of Georgia. Kingdom of georgia is ancient kingdom, which survived all of eastern or western foes and did not lost its culture. also, georgia was famous with its well trained military. as leader id suggest greatest general of all time by Thetoptens, King David IV(4) the Builder. Adding Georgia will add some historical accuracy and diversity to game. Georgia has unique buildings and structures, mix of west wit east.

I planned to open a topic for that and then I saw your thread :)
I'll expand it a bit ^^

At the edge of South-Eastern Europe lies Georgia, country dating its statehood since legendary kingdom of Colchis. Georgians have their unique language, unique alphabet and one of the oldest autocephalous orthodox churches. Christian country since 325 AD, Georgia was developing with cooperation with other Christian countries (mainly Fellow orthodox Byzantine empire) and was one of the bastions of Christianity at the borders of Europe.

Leader: David IV "the builder"

David IV ascended on throne at 1189 and was one of the most successful kings of Georgia. By the time, Georgia was weakened by seljuk invasions and civil wars. He managed to defeat rebellious feudals and stabilize the country. He slowly drove out seljuks and at 1121 at battle of Didgori, Georgians managed to defeat huge muslim coalition. The victory at Didgori signaled the emergence of Georgia as a great military power and shifted the regional balance in favor of Georgian cultural and political supremacy :king:. Victory was important not only for Georgia, but for Christians in General, mainly for Crusaders, who were considered by David IV as his natural Allies and vice versa. David IV had rebuild many churches and forts, destroyed during the war, founded academies of Gelati and Ikalto and restored Kingdom from ruins, hence nickname "the builder". Member of the dynasty, that considered itself to be descendant of biblical king David, David IV wrote "Hymns of Repentance", a sequence of eight free-verse psalms, and by that linking himself with his legendary ancestor.

national ideas:
1)Kmadnapitsoba (Vassalage): main expansion strategy of medieval Georgia was creating small bordering vassal states and slowly incorporating them. before Mongol invasions, Georgia controlled many vassal states and dependencies, from small north caucasian counties, to empire of trebizond.

bonus: relations with city states wont decrease if they are allied.
or extra diplomatic options for annexing city states (like with maria teresa at civ V)

2) Surrounded by larger rivals, Georgians always fought wars against more numerous enemies and won most battles against them.

bonus: while defending, damaged units fight like healed ones (like japanese in CIV V perhaps?)

unique unit:
either
1)Monaspa cavalry (replacing knights): elite cavalry units, serving king (thats what it literally means, "servant army")
or
2)Metsikhovneebi (fort Guard) armed with firearms and replacing arquebusiers if we want to to add men with guns. Of course fire arms were adopted 3 centuries after King David, but these units were created by him as distinct military entity (first armed with bows and swords, then adopted firearms). tbh, reason I'm suggesting them is because our national uniform "chokha" was spread after usage of firearms and adding them in game would be lovely :D

unique building:
svan tower: alongside of its defensive bonus (like fort), svan towers could produce additional culture and gold (they were actually used for safeguarding treasure). must be built on hills.

colors:
red and white (current flag colors)
or
dark red and black (colors of flag of queen tamar)

symbols:
Bolnuri cross (Georgian version of cross pattee:

or

borjgali (ancient Georgian symbol of sun):

Heresy! No one can lead Georgia but the revered Tamar of Georgia! :D

(mainly Fellow orthodox Byzantine empire)
Small point: as confusing as it is, Eastern Orthodoxy (as practiced by Byzantines and Russians) is not the same as Oriental Orthodoxy (Coptic Orthodoxy, Syriac Orthodoxy, Georgian Orthodoxy, Armenian Apostolic Church, etc.). In doctrine, Eastern Orthodoxy is much closer to Catholicism than Oriental Orthodoxy is, but (among other differences) it uses Greek as a liturgical language, views the patriarch of Constantinople as its head, and takes issue with the "filioque" phrasing of the Nicene Creed. The Oriental Orthodox churches split from the ecumenical council at Chalcedon, before Eastern Orthodoxy split from Catholicism. They are autocephalous, but pretty similar in theology. (As a side note, I hope to see Oriental Orthodoxy represented among the game's religions this time.)

I am Georgian myself and we practice Calcedonite Eastern orthodoxy like most of eastern Europe and have eucharistical unions with rest of orthodox churches including constantinople. and no, ecumenal patriarch is not the "head of orthodox church", rather there are autocephalus orthodox churches, governed by local patriarchs, where constantineople is considered as "first amongst the equals.
Eastern Orthodoxy by countries:

Eastern Orthodoxy by countries:
Except in Africa, where the patriarch of Alexandria is considered "first among equals." :) I'm aware that the modern churches have done a lot to bridge the gaps of the past, but historically the Oriental and Eastern Orthodox churches were not in communion. Though I understand that the Armenian Apostolic Church has historically been in communion with the papal see. (I'm Protestant myself, but I find Oriental Orthodoxy very intriguing.)

Eh, Actually pope of alexandria is first amongst the equals for coptic christians (or oriental orthodox) in Egypt and Ethiopia only. Armenian Gregorian church doesn't even consider someone to be Higher than Patriarch of Armenia. And Armenian rite catholics are distinct church.
I'm actually against the usage of term "oriental Orthodox" :D as it unites several middle eastern churches that are note same at all and it's like melting everything in the same pot + it leads to confusion with actual orthodox churches.
as For Eastern orthodox churches (actual orthodox), here are all the autocephalous patriarchates:
  • Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople (Archbishop of Constantinople-New Rome and Ecumenical Patriarch)
  • Patriarchate of Alexandria (His Most Divine Beatitude the Pope and Patriarch of the Great City of Alexandria, Libya, Pentapolis, Ethiopia, all the land of Egypt, and all Africa, Father of Fathers, Shepherd of Shepherds, Prelate of Prelates, Thirteenth of the Apostles, and Judge of the Œcumene)
  • Patriarchate of Antioch (Patriarch of Antioch and all the East)
  • Patriarchate of Jerusalem (Patriarch of the Holy City of Jerusalem and all Palestine, and of Syria, Arabia, beyond the Jordan River, Cana of Galilee, and Sacred Zion)
  • Patriarchate of Georgia (Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, the Archbishop of Mtskheta-Tbilisi and Metropolitan bishop of Abkhazia and Pitsunda.)
  • Patriarchate of Russia (Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia)
  • Serbian Patriarchate (Archbishop of Peć, Metropolitan of Belgrade and Karlovci, and Serbian Patriarch)
  • Patriarchate of Romania (Archbishop of Bucharest, Metropolitan of Ungro-Valachia, and Patriarch of All Romania)
  • Patriarchate of Bulgaria (Metropolitan of Sofia and Patriarch of All Bulgaria)
  • Orthodox Church of Cyprus (Archbishop of New Justiniana and all Cyprus)
  • Orthodox Church of Greece (Archbishop of Athens and all Greece)
  • Orthodox Church of Poland (Metropolitan of Warsaw and all Poland)
  • Orthodox Church of Albania (Archbishop of Tirana and all Albania)
  • Orthodox Church of the Czech lands and Slovakia (Archbishop of Prague, the Metropolitan of Czech lands and Slovakia or the Archbishop of Presov, the Metropolitan of Czech lands and Slovakia)
  • Orthodox Church in America (Archbishop of Washington, Metropolitan of All America and Canada)

But I think we went a bit offtopic :)
