Hey Good People,

There just seems to be a gross absence of Colonization sites with information about the original game. After some careful thought and since I've been working on putting my site together for all versions of civ, I decided that I should include colonization as a major part of the site. I'm sure you all remember that after Civ I came out, some of us thoutht that Colonization might be the sequel but realized very quickly it wasn't. Unfortunately, as we looked for a sequel to Colonization, all that happened was that it fell into obscurity, shadowed by the greater Civilization series.

I've even included a tentative section on my site for "Colonization II" for which I expect to set up a petition to "beg" firaxis to pursue a sequel for this outstanding game.

I've made a number of improvements on my site based on some suggestions other civers have given -- but I want to have original Colonization fans give their ideas about what this site should include. My mission is simple: archive files about the game and its history and offer related news no one else spends much time with.

But I get the feeling from some who have contacted me already that there is an opportunity here to build a few fan related portions into the site. Maybe you could take a look at it and tell me what you think:

Civilization Partisans Hideout

Yes, I am still writing the pages (please do not email or post here and say the first thing I could do is finish the site -- the point is to fix it BEFORE I finish the pages). I've incorporated FreeCiv and FreeCol and will be posting strategies and so forth. I suppose my question is what is it about the original game that everyone is looking for from this kind of site? Players obviously like GOTM's -- but also scenarios. Could I have some kind of competition for creating utilities that make scenarios or maps for Colonization? Should I offer some kind of hall of fame or award for high scores? These seem very time consuming but also repetitive for what is offered here too. I want the Colonization pages to be complete but have what fans want.

Thanks to everyone for their help,

NEWS FLASH!!

Fresh new downloads available for COLONIZATION here!

I've added the Player Aid Cards and will soon be adding the Technical Supplement as soon as I can scan it this week.

Take a look and if you have suggestions, post here!

Glad to know its still kicking!

Glad you're a fan!:goodjob:

:scan:Here's the pioneer mission theme song of the colonists:

Colonization...
The American Frontier...these are the voyages of the over taxed...the religious deviants who had to get off the isles...before they were hung...it's a pioneer mission...to build up enough liberty to declare independence...to do whatever it takes, so that you don't have to kiss that damn pinky ring again!

do..do..doooooo...do..do..do...do...doooo

Okay...so I'm still working on the theme song...at least we can speculate how Captain Kirk would've said it...

It's not logical...but it's Colonization and it rules!:crazyeye:

Hey folks!

I have a need that perhaps some kind soul can help with...I see the colonies (www.swecol.com) project has vaporized...I had some trouble transferring files to my website...apparently, I've lost the only colonies file that I had...at least...I thought I had it...I think it is a 14.45mb file....

If anyone has this file please email...I wanted to preserve this work...even if it never gets done...it is part of my site vision...to preserve stuff like this...

Thanks to any and all who can help...

Cheers!

Unfortunately, while I was sure I had it when I saw your post at work, aparently I must have deleted it a some point :( I can ask around if anyone has it but don't keep your hopes up. I do have the project documentation someone creating a remaking colonization or modding Civ4:Col in the future. I can upload/send it to you if you wan't (it's 2.7Mb word document with all sorts of usefull info, including small historic portraits of all founding fathers. I can convert it to PDF if you want as well.)

Not all work on project are lost as the buildings they made with 3DS Max are still available, with permission, in another colonization remake site : NewCol (see buildings, units art are from from FreeCol and are under some Creative Commons license I think).

There are two other projects you may consider preserving while you still can. One is Landfall available only in this forum we're in now. Just scroll down to "The New World goes turnbased!" topic and its in the first post or just click this link. It's yet another colonization remake that seem to have stagnated/died.

The other is The Clash of Civilizations. The latest (and last) demo release can be found here. The main site died this year and I actually just noticed that apolyton also mirrors the site as well, not just the files. It has lots of documentation someone might find interesting.
