I have Colonization on Amiga. Can anyone who have played both Amiga and Windows versions tell if the Windows version are close to the Amiga version?

Games at that time was with few exceptions superior on the Amiga platform.

Geocities is a respected server company owned by Yahoo.com which scans all files for viruses when they are uploaded. I also scan the files prior to upload. They are just as safe as here at CivFanatics which hosts files for CPH as well.

Are you serious? MicroProse has not supported Colonization for almost 10 years. In fact, CPH is the only site that I know of which has NEW Colonization downloads of any kind. If CPH doesn't support Colonization with new files--I don't know of anyone who will.

I have not personally played Colonization on the Amiga, unfortunately. I wish I had the space for an Amiga--I know there is a good emulator out there I have tried to use. I have seen the Original Civilization just recently on an Amiga and it was superior in sound and graphics. I would suspect that Colonization would be the same or at least similar in quality on Amiga. However, I would also guess that gameplay itself would be identical as on a Windows computer (technically, Colonization is a DOS game).

Sad to say, MicroProse ceased to exist as a separate entity in 1993. It was one of my favorite PC game companies. In case anyone is interested, you can read about the "downfall" of MicroProse at MobyGames.

As a fan of Colonization as well as other MicroProse titles, my hat's off to you, CivPartisan. In this day of "meism" it is refreshing to find someone who does things for the benefit of others.

Thanks for the kudos Greybriar!

I'm glad to see that there are some out there who know the value of good intentions. I love Sid Meier's games and I like to spread the good cheer.

And it certainly isn't without reward to offer file downloads--I get to share all the games I like with others and hopefully make new friends online too

BTW, that is a fantastic link you posted! I didn't even know about many of the particulars. This is the kind of stuff that I try to accumulate for the site. It would be nice to make the site a one-stop archive if I can. I am also trying to show everyone that just because a game is not on a store shelf doesn't mean it is dead. Colonization is a great game--sure, it's not Halo--but it's not suppose to be.

Everyone...keep checking back at CPH. There are more downloads coming after the holidays and if you play Civ2 look for the new CivChristmas Mod that I have coming in a day or two...I would have released it today but I am still hammering out some of the sounds.

The Amiga version of Colonization was the last game I bought for my Amiga back in...1995...I'd guess. Unlike the Amiga version of Civilization, which was just slightly better than the DOS version at that time, the Amiga Colonization was took much better advantage of the Amiga's abilities.

My feeling is that the Amiga version of Colonization looks better than the PC DOS version of the game. The graphics and gameplay are very similar but the GUI on the Amiga works a lot better. It's been a *long* time since I've played it on the Amiga, but that's my memory from the time.

However, I think the Windows Colonization is better than the Amiga version. The graphics are more colorful and the resolution is higher. I really love the Amiga version, and I hate having to compare it to the Windows version. The Amiga verison of Colonization improved on Civilization for the Amiga in so many ways. But, when Microsprose did the Windows port of Colonization, they really did a fantastic job and it was a lot better than the Amiga version.

I believe Colonization was only made for Amigas with standard chipset.

Civilization was made in two versions, the AGA version was much nicer than the standard version.
When you compare, do you compare the standard Amiga version?

You're right. I only played AGA CIV a few times on a friend's Amiga, most of the time I was playing CIV on my Amiga 500. I remember the graphics on the AGA version were obviously better, but the GUI was still the same.

It is so many years since I played those games, that I don't remember much details. Civ AGA had a higher resolution and more colours than Colonization, but the graphics in Col were also nice. I can't be more specific than this. What impressed me most with Col was, I think, the music.

In reviews, Civ for A500 got higher score than Civ AGA. My magazine rated Civ to 99%, and Civ AGA to somewhere between 91 and 96%. Civ AGA was a great improvement over the standard Civ, but given the hardware resources on A1200 and A4000, it could have been even greater. Therefore the "poor" rating.
