Ok. I'm a bit of a late starter, coz I only got civ2 a month ago. Struggling to find time I've just finished my first game; it went something like this.
English
London formed where my settler began, next to what appeared to be ocean. Fortified with 3 warriors, then began expanding with 2 settlers. After building the city walls, I then set to work on three successive wonders... pyramids, oracle, great wall.
York formed just down the shore with amazing surrounds that gave great production. Soon strengthened with 2 phalanx and then a tirade of tiremes. Other two cities (1 settler, 1 nomad) were unfortified but made an army of archers and catapults.
Age of philosophy started in 2400BC, and great library built in Nottingham by 2000BC. Army was about complete (aprx: 2 settlers, 12 warriors, 4 archers, 4 catapults, 3 horsemen, 1 phalanx and 6 tiremes.
Discovered early on that was only inhabitant of small island with room only for about 7 cities. Expanded with army in 1000BC and destroyed Chinese and German cities almost straight away. Captured 8 cities including Berlin (very nice!). Left America alone and had amicable distrust of Spanish.
By 0AD was happiest and biggest civ with 41 cities and 5000+ gold. Celts and Spanish were at war with each other and allowed several cities to be taken by barbs (with a little bit of sabotage!)
Decided as was top dog to fortify all units and study/build. Raised taxes and science and ruled with iron fist to stop revolts. Hard few years followed but grew in size and knowledge with 13 wonders and population of 9 million.
To cut a long story short...
600AD discovered all land areas
800AD 110 cities 11000+ gold
900AD Destroyed Spanish (after sneak attack on London)
900AD Allied with Celts and America
1000AD 140 cities 19000+ gold
1000AD Celts and America at war.
1200AD America attacks ironclads in port. Starts war
1550AD America defeated after 350 years of war (never should have left them alone!)
1600AD All units fortified. Change to Democracy
1700AD Start long task of railroading entire empire
1750AD Begin Flight experimentation (not very successful!)
1850AD Celts steal technology
1850AD Complete rail links accross 165 cities
1851AD Celts steal technology AGAIN. Need to be tought a lesson...
1880AD Celts reduced to Jarrow and Mallorca(stolen from Spain)
1900AD Celts begged for mercy and given all money from Celts.
1920AD Started work on space flight. Woohoo!
1952AD Literacy at 100%, life 88, happiness 100%!
1958AD Apollo space program started
1982AD Spaceship program begins
1984AD Celts declare war with Nuclear strike on three cities.
1988AD Celts defeated by rogue cruise missile.
GAME ends.
