Hello dear "Fall from Heaven"-Players...
...when playing this wonderful game i often had my fair share of the magic-system. Mostly with a love/hate-relationship how it plays and what you can do with it. There are wonderful possibilities (all thos splashy effects we like in magic), but it hampers itself for beeing late and lacking variability.
...with this threat i want to give my own two cents of ideas how the "fall from heaven"-magic could be more.
Ideas:
1. Each mana you have, grants 1 point Spell Research
2. Spell Research is like a second technology-tree containing all magic related (those like "knowledge of ether" etc. Are take from the technology-tree and placed here under meta-magic)
3. Each mana-type has its own tree, whose first "technology" is like the transmute to build apropriate mana node and increase spell research of all this mana by 1
4. From there each has more "technologies" standing for the possible spells of this sphere (promotions to use the spell)
5. Spelluse remains the same, with promotions that can be used once per turn
6. Adepts can be build with research of "knowledge of ether" and are 1/2 units with promotion of "Sage I: 20% to gain 1 exp per turn, but only magic-promotions"
7. Each other cool promotions (Empore I-V, Twincast, Sage II, etc.) that are no spells will be found and researched in the meta-magic-tree
...so what do you think?
Have a nice day,
Oblation
