I guess all of you already thinking about Civ 5, yet I just got this tought no one (for my knowledge) made a Dune type mod for Civ IV. Yet it would be interesting. Imagine a desert planet, with some rocks, and plains near the poles, small cities (at first) of 3 at best, buildable only on rocks (hills in original game) no roads, no rivers (for now), 4 factions (Harkonnens, Atreides, Lieto Freemens, Smugglers), worms as raging barbarians, powerful, yet subduable by Freemens. "wild" fremens would be barbaric cities, Harkonnens and Atreides would be superior with their technology, Freemens with their worms capturing (temporal units) and spy/stealth ability. Windtraps to fertilize desert, with enough of them - possibility to transform a tile into grassland - a improvement styled, like villlages in vanila. Can't figure out the spice place and function yet, unless it would be a goody hut like mechanism, allowing harvester units (like scouts) to get gold, but spawning a worm (or worms) as well. Storyline in style similar to Alpha centauri, ending with tranforming the planet into a green paradise, like in Emperor of the Dune, but with fractions that are interested the planet to stay desert (Harkonnens, smugglers), and thus, destroying water improvements. It would be a gameplay based on fast units, big, flying carriers-transporters, hit an run at the beginning... Just a tought, for you, who knows modding better. Getting ideas is my curse, since I am only able to modify some xml. Certainly, no graphic, and no python.
