Here is something that I have not seen mentioned in the myriad of threads here:
I can not re-boot my machine if the CivIV CD is in the player. Machine crashes during the black WinXP start-up screen. Every time.
It kinda makes me wonder if there is something with the read of the CD during play that might be causing the game to crash? Normally, I create virtual images of my CD's and play from there as I hate the constant spin-up of the cd as the game plays, but my attempts at virtual cd usage have been foiled by the CivIV start-up.
I'm not sure this post will help anyone (probably not), but I just wanted to mention this little tid-bit. Maybe I need to look into switching the drive names of my 2 players? One (that I'm using) is a Samsung DVD-ROM (drive E), and the other is just a Toshiba CD-ROM (drive F). I normally use drive F to load/install/play games, but again, the CivIV start-up wants the FIRST drive to be the one that is used. I found this out after initially installing on drive F and the game would not start, saying something about "Load the CD into the player" crap when it was in drive F all along.
Can anyone give me the steps required to swap these 2 drives? It's probably easy, but I'm just not sure where to begin. Power down, unlpug drive E, re-boot. Will drive F become drive E? If so, power down, plug in (old drive E), re-boot, and they should be switched?
