New to modding - Basic SDK Mod not working

At any point whatsoever are you clicking any "BACK" buttons after you get to the MODS menu and trying to load/start-new game from within the normal "SINGLE PLAYER" menu?

Either that, or trying or add the mod to an existing save game and the game is auto-disabling the mod during the load

Yeah. Probably this. I tested it by starting a new modded game instead of trying to load a saved modded game or a saved non-modded game.

Well, I don't know what happened, but I got the mod working. It won't work in a pre-existing save, but it will work in a new game.

The thing is, I tried using it with a new game yesterday, when it was revealed that the mod actions weren't saving.

Thank you very much for the help and patience. I very much appreciate it, and may use this thread again for 2 small tweaks I'm considering. Not sure if I want them yet.

It won't work in a pre-existing save, but it will work in a new game.

Because the mod is (correctly) setting the "Affects save game" flag. The game core automatically and silently disables any enabled mods and enables any disabled mods that a save game doesn't / does require.

Your save was started with the mod, so the game silently disabled it as it loaded the save

Um...are you sure about that part? Last time I tried such a thing it simply would not allow me to even attempt loading a saved game that required Mod-X if Mod-X was not enabled.

Your save was started without the mod, so the game silently disabled it as it loaded the save
I think this is what you meant to say.

Definitely "without"

And am I sure, no not really! It's been a very, very long time since I tried to get the game to auto - load/unload mods - as even if it enables them automatically it won't do so in the correct order. Although it can be fun to get swordmen replacements becoming super-carriers!

Hmmm ... I did notice something when I was experimenting with my current game and with new ones.

When I started new games, after setting it up and launching the new game, I'd get the configuring game data message, then the game would load.

When trying to load the mod into an existing game, I'd still get the configuration message, but as the game loaded the background would flash white for a split second, then briefly show the main menu behind the configuration message before loading the save.

I used to get similar graphical anomalies with Civ IV, so I dismissed it. I guess the evidence was there all along.
