Newbie wonder question

Hi all,

I'm just playing my first Civ III game in the tutorial mode and chieftain.

I haven't been terribly successful, but so far I'm about twice as big as my two remaining competetors combined. So winning is not really an issue. As I just figured out by reading old threads, I made the newbie mistake of building ALL wonders. So now I own all wonders available, but for some reason, I can't build any new ones. I want to begin the space race by building the Apollo project, but none of my cities have the option of starting to build it....

Same with the three other wonders I still want to build: Longevity, Manhattan and Cure for cancer. I simply don't have the option to start to build them, except for some really tiny cities that would take forever to build them.

This does not go for Apollo project though. None of my cities can build that.

Just a bit confused...

Thx in advance for any help...

Niels

Are you tree framing?
The sheilds produced by clearing a forest cannot be transfered to wonders.

It's not wrong to build every available wonder. It's just that in the higher difficulty levels it can be very difficult to build wonders and it might drain your empire too much. Sometimes it is better to build a large number of units and conquer 5 cities (which might contain wonders) than to build 1 wonder. Or maybe create a few marketplaces and libraries to get a better economy.

In your game it seems as if it were possible to get the wonders and still build a succesfull empire. At chieftain level the AI has production disadvantages.

On the question of not being able to build a wonder.
If you rush a building process in any way, you can't change the buildingorder in a wonder.
Rushing includes: disbanding units in a city, using money or population to finish a building/unit in one turn, chopping forests for 10 shields a piece (can be done only once per tile), selling buildings after the invention of recycling (it gives you shields then, but I've never tested if this disallows wonder building, just assuming here).

Some wonders have requirements such as: have to be build in a sea city, need certain resources in city radius or just available in the city and mayby building prerequisites. Check if you can live up to all the requirements.

Good luck with your game.

Hmmm, well I think there might be something more structurally wrong.

I managed to build the Apollo program, but I'm now having the same problem with my space ship.

For instance I wanted my capitakl to build the engine. So I click assign in the F10 screen, and I assign it to Rome 7(12). It then asks me whether I want to change from solar plant to engine, I ssay yes, and nothing happens....

You need certain resources to build the various SS parts (uranium, aluminum, and maybe rubber IIRC - Check the Civilopedia.) It may be possible that only certain cities have these resources connected. Open the city view (Zoom to Rome) and see if the SS engine shows up as a production option. If it's there, but it's greyed out, you've probably rushed your current production in some way. The only way to know for sure will be to finish whatever you're producing and start fresh on the Space Ship part.

Interesting, I never use the F10 screen to assign my cities build orders for the Space Ship. What happens if you just go into the City and switch from Solar Plant to Engine?

Well, in the city screen, the wonders (or SS parts) simply don't show up.....

They're not grey, they're simply not there at all....

All my cities have been connected by Railroad ages ago, and I have all resources, so that shouldn't be the problem....
