Civilization VI - Game of the Month 69

Welcome to the 69th game in the 6OTM Series! These games will allow new and old GOTM fans to try out the new features in Civ6 in a friendly environment. Participants are encouraged to post questions, stories, advice, tricks and failures in the dedicated game threads (described below). Each game will specify the Civ you will play and the Victory Condition to strive for. We will be working to refine the 6otM concept as we move ahead with the series. Gifting of cities is an exploit in a religious VC as the AI cant see that it will lose if it accepts the cities.

Must Read!
We would like to ask you to abide by our most sacred rule: Don’t replay any turns! If you make a mistake, accept it and try to recover. To ensure fair play and prevent results exclusions, please set your Autosaves to 1 turn. In the event of a computer crash while playing, just reload to the previous save and play it as closely to how you played it the first time. Please let Leif know (via Conversation (Private Message)) if you experienced a crash and how many turns you replayed.

It’s also used to discuss the game before you start, and post problems with opening the save. Once you have opened the save, DO NOT POST in the Announcement thread, even non game-related information. Instead use the next thread.

Opening Actions thread: This thread is used to discuss the game's opening decisions and strategies through the first 100 or so turns. Thinking about settling the Desert Ivory, but this being 7 seas and Dom I probably want coastal Cap.

I'm probably going to get pummeled as I've never even played deity before...but there's gotta be a first time for everything right? :)

Not really sure where I'm going to want the cap, will have to think on it. Coastal makes sense for early navy right?

I'm probably going to settle 1NE and eventually build an aqueduct 1NE of that. Seven Seas often have inland seas that aren't easily connected to the bigger oceans and if you get Norway or Phoenecia nearby they can be a major pain in the butt if you have early coastal cities.

Yeah, the 7 Seas map in 6oTM67 made naval power pretty much useless. Huge land map with small inland seas... unless you want to spend your whole day digging canals... might be better to go for fast-moving land units. Scouting will be at a premium, so that probably affects my usual first build order somewhat. I'll probably settle the desert ivory which leaves some awesome terrace farm chains/workable mountains in the capitol, once we can clear the trees. Unless the warrior finds some better option by moving first on t2. I'll go for Magnus as my first gov to get the bonus on the chops.

I would prefer to settle 1 tile SW too. It leaves a lot of land available for terrace farms, and a good Campus spot 1 or 2 tiles further SW. Also, after 6otM55 I've learned the importance of a defendable capital on high difficulty, and 1 SW is very good for that. That position also makes it difficult for barb scouts to spot, hopefully . (there was some very good advice on city invisibility from @Victoria for that game). Not to forget the era points for a desert city.

1 SE would be best for invisibility. I imagine they are not the only mountains nearby based on current map designs. Also the current spot does not give good starting food. freeing up that jungle tile gives a 2/2 which could be considered more balanced than a bunch of 1/3. All a bit of a gamble. Passing on this one, too busy.

I haven’t played Inca yet but Warak’aq look like a ton of fun. Is it viable to straight up beeline them or will the AI have walls up by then? Only six techs (or seven if you take Masonry to build walls for boost) and they could all be boosted though BW and IW would depend on luck of catching three barbs fast enough / finding Iron nearby. I feel like 40 damage times two is going to crush cities in no time.

Can Watak’aq capture cities? They are ranged but also recon so I was not sure of the rules.

I'm looking at 1W to start for the coastal city, +1 production, open up +2 food tile, and bananas into 2d tier tiles. With the mountains I already see, I think early Campuses.

Looks fun, does anyone know if the Incan UU works with the double recon experience card?

Yeah, im gonna play.
