News: BOTM06 First Spoiler

Goal: domination
Level: contender

Fishing, Polytheism

4000BC Warrior N, settled in place

3680BC Buddhism founded
3600BC Hinduism founded elsewhere...! in none of my 6 practice games did either Buddhism or Hinduism get founded as early as this one. Fishing to get access to sea commerce costs 2 turns on Poly, but I'd still have been about 2 turns short!

I was considering going for Hinduism myself and ran 5-6 tests to see how quick the AI was. In one test the AI founded Hinduism faster than it was possible for a human player to do it. So I knew the risks but tried it in my own game... and was beaten by an AI who researched Polytheism faster than a human player possibly could.

Buddhism wasn't founded until later in my game, though. That hardly ever happens! I actually could have had it if I'd gone for it from the start, but we all know that never works, right? So this was is really just adding insult to injury in my opinion.

Overall, comparing to jesusin, I got quite held back by the 2 wonders in my development and, therefore, onslaught start. We'll see in the final spoiler whether it was worth doing.

Also, I used almost zero cottages - when I wasn't pop-rushing, it was the coast commerce.

Losing a forest and 1 happy by a RE so soon threw away my careful plans. I started a Settler just because unhappy citizens don't eat while building a Settler or Worker. Just after that another RE put a -1 with DeG and yet another one gave combat1 to DeG Archers. No need to express my opinion on early Real Events .
One of our top players had 2 events when he had 3 cities guarded by 2 warriors, with unhooked copper: the first was 4 barb swords, the second - 4 barb axes. I also had 4 axes, but luckily happeng to deGaulle. Maybe we should revise the event list in HoF mod.

I agree 100%, there is just too much variability early on!
