NHL Reorganization

Cleveland Barons? Dear Gawd, didn't they last one season before becoming the original Colorado Rockies, now the New Jersey Devils? Columbus is the bigger city, and hockey is the only game in town. Leave Columbus alone.

Your thinking of the Kansas City Scouts.

The Barons were around for two seasons or so, then merged with the Minnesota North Stars. Part of the North Stars ownership group later wanted to move the team to San Jose in the early 90's, where the Barons had begun as the California Seals. Instead, the Stars moved to Dallas, and the Barons group got their new team in San Jose.

hmm - this is an interesting concept Mr. Boily :)

i agree that the Islanders are sort of dead weight. i mean, it's like a masoleum at the Nassau Coloseum, dark and dank if you know what i mean.

i hate, hate, hate the NJ Devils and wished they went to Tennessee back in the 90s when they were ready to go. however, the NY metro area should get at least 2 teams (and since the NYI are on the chopping block...)

i know there's lots of Clarke/Flyers haters out there but it can not be denied that Phila fans are 110% crazy in love w/ their hockey team...and it matters not whether we're winning or not. so the Flyers are an NHL staple i think.

i would love to see more teams in Canada. Winnipeg is one of the 1st cities that comes to mind. Québec is another.

no to Seattle and no to Cleveland imo. i'd rather see a Canadian city get a team b/c i just don't think there'd be enough US support.

what about Houston? dallas has done pretty well in terms of fans, etc. and it is the 3rd or 4th largest market in the US.

You're thinking of KC Scouts. The Barons were terrible, the arena was in the suburbs (Richfield, I think?) and hockey in Ohio has always been a dicey proposition. Still, the Crusaders were a somewhat decent franchise in Cleveland. On the plus side, Hockey is the only major sport in Columbus, and Cleveland has the Browns, the Cavs and the Indians.

Like I said, I don't know enough about Columbus/Ohio, so that decision was a crapshot.
