No barbarian experience

I have got ROM 2.9 and AND 1.7 installed.

The problem I am having is that my units are not getting any experience when battling barbarian units. I wanted to get more experience when battling barbarians so upped the limit from 20 to 2000 or 20000 (can't remember how many 0's I put). Is there an upper limit I may have gone over? Or has something been changed in the new versions of these mods which means that just changing these values wont get me experience?

Edit: I just tried reinstalling and I get experience fine with just ROM installed but not when I install AND. I guess it must be one of the modules with AND that modifies barbarian experience??

Edit 2: On further testing it seems that after the first five or so battles I start to get experience up to the normal 20 experience. However, the first five units got occasional promotions while none of the other units which got experience did.

Edit 3: I think I figured it out. I see that with occasional promotions you either get the promotion or xp not both. So in the end just a lack of reading comprehension on my part.

where can you change the limit for barb exp? and does this mean it changes the amount of exp you get from battle or is it like a limit cap, that one unit can not get more from battling them then set here?

It is in the globaldefines.xml file. Search for barbarian. It is the limit cap so you can set it to more than 20 which I think is the limit for ROM.
