Hi, I have a dilemma. I want to play Civilization 4 on my laptop as I travel a lot. I know my laptop is fairly capable of running it, but it Civilization 4 requires the CD in the drive to play. My laptop is small form factor, and does not come with a CD Drive, and I installed the game via an external one, but I can't carry this around with me all the time as it isn't practical.

Is there anything I can do short of buying a digital copy off a service like Steam?

Thanks.

welcome to CFC! :band:

You have 3 legal options, all of which involve buying more of the game.

1. Buy a disc copy of Beyond The Sword, install and patch to 3.19 which does not require the CD in the drive to play.

2. Buy a disc copy of the US version of Complete (the one with Colonization) which is DRM free. The European version of complete (without Colonization) still requires the disc apart from BTS once the 3.19 patch is applied

3. Buy a copy from an on-line vendor such as steam.

edit: there are often problems mixing disc versions of the game with downloaded versions. If you go the download route to solve your problem you may not just be able to add a downloaded version of BTS or Warlords to your disc Civ version and may have to buy either just plain Civ 4 or the complete game. It is usually more reliably to stick with all disc or all downloaded versions.
