No CD Patch still requires CD

I have been playing Civ for as long as I can remember. I have been playing Civ 5 lately but wanted to play Civ 4 Mac. When I install the standard Civ 4 and then run the BTS installer it works fine. But when I update to 1.74 it updates but still requires the CD. I have been able to get it to work on Windows but for some reason it doesn't on the Mac.

The Mac disc version does not allow the game to run without doing the disc check on the CD or DVD. The patch that allows discless access is only for the Windows version. I run CIV on my Mac and have to have the DVD in the drive at CIV startup or it won't load. OTOH, I also have CIV on my Mac in a virtual Windows machine (using Parallels) with the same patches as the Mac version. The windows version does not require the disc for BTS 3.19. However, please note that the discless patch only is for BTS. Even in the Windows version, you must have the disc in the drive to load for vanilla (that would be the 1.74 version) and Warlords.
