Well. I have to admit, that alot of problems I hear about from other people, I just dont have.

While the computer Zulu's may produce Impi's in the modern Era, it also builds a large amount of tanks and bombers to go along with it. I havent had spearmen defeating my tanks or shooting down bombers. I have had infantry and riflemen back off my tanks, and Elite cavalry finish off next to dead tanks, but nothing drastic.

I havent experienced the Air Superiority bug yet, but I am dreading it.

Anyone else not experiencing anything major... kinda just enjoying the game?

I've had the same experience; pretty much normal gameplay with an occasionally perplexing battle between tanks and immortals and things like that.

I haven't run into the air superiority bug either; usually because I haven't finished playing long enough for the AI to get air units. There is nothing more frustrating than having whole air wings full of jet fighters and no one for them to shoot down. I'll have to wait to see that bug appear or hold my breath for a patch....

Overall I think Civ3 is a great game. Not so much better than Civ2, but different enough for me to enjoy this one too.

The sweetest thing is the combat noises. I was attacking the Japanese with some tanks, and their Samrui came out and defended, making htat sword "snikt" sound. I could picture their katanas cutting into my tanks, and sure enough, each Samuri was good for one or two hit points off of my tanks.

It was amusing.

The worst results I have had are as follows...

Yesterday I had a 4health frigate sink a 2health destroyer (taking no dmg in the process), and I had a 4 heath horseman kill a 2 health tank in open terrain (taking 2 dmg in the process).

These are not too bad really, and though I flinched at the destroyers sinking, hey "C'est la vie".

Other than those two, everything seems to be pretty normal. 2 Cavalry killing a lone tank in a forest, riflemen repelling modern armor on occasion, but hardly the problematic encounters that some describe...

Speaking of the air superiority bug, I haven't even had someone attempt to bomb my terrain. I am not really sure why. I have watched the AI civs bomb each other into oblivion so they definately have bombers. Maybe they investigate my cities and see the force of fighter jets waiting for them, and, not knowing that they are impotent, shy away and bomb someone else. I guess it will happen to me eventually, and I can imagine myself flying into a rage.

I've had a aircraft carrier sunk by a galley and a modern armor lose to a pike.Thats awful.

The game is ok.Not great.Its no Civ2.

I never had problems with gallies attacking carriers. Matter of fact, I havent seen any galleys since I have brought about Carriers. Whenever I attacked a city, it was defended by riflemen or infantry, so I never had a tank defeated by pikemen or spearmen.

I disagree with the Sid philosophy of giving people hope if they cant produce certain natural goods. Hey, its life. If you cant creat tanks, and all you have is spearmen, than your SOL and going to lose.

Anyway. No problems except for very long turns at this point, but thats what I expected/hoped for anyway.

Long turns...

Yes, all the Civ games get a little sludging at the end...but it can't be avoided.

In my current game I have one opponent left, but I still have 50 modern armour and 20 spare mech infantry sitting on another continent...so I can go through the pain of moving them over to the continent with my last foe or...just hit the next turn button and hope I am not missing anyone important...

Cheers

The AI will definitely bomb you with bombers and you are pretty much defenseless against it -- as are they.

There does not appear to be a viable anti-air defense or fighter unit in the game.

I live Civ3 a lot, but I think it is inexcusable to leave a bug this big sitting this long without a patch. It's not like they had to invent this one from scratch.

I have a theory I'm probably wrong, but it seems that there is some kind of "game balance rule" that gets triggered when the player gets to far ahead. I was playing the Americans on a large world. I got a settler and about 9 different techs and gold, I wasn't restarting so I was very:D ! I had discovered iron and located it. I sent 2 settlers with security to form two cities. All 8 civs are on one big continent with a few islands surrounding the big one. I had made contacvt with 6 civs already and was sure I was about to takeover the world. Then the "game balance monster":( struck. And hard. 2 groups of barbarians with over 20 in each group hit me. I only had 2 cities at this time. I saw the barbarians and founded a city to keep from getting killed. maybe 7 moves from the 3 iron icons. They overran my city and it took me about 500 years before I was able to take advantage of the iron. By that time other civs had come a long way and the game was now more even.
The only times I have had the modern units losing to ancient ones is when i have been weel ahead. Obviously ( cav versus spearmen)
But regardless I love this game. Only thing I dislike is that if you play the same civ alot you end up playing against common enemies too much. (French vs. Germans)

The only drastic thing I have encountered is the air superiority bug. You all are complaining about pike men beating tanks, it can happen. It may happen very rarely, but it happens. It is not a bug. Now Air Superiority is bugged. I had a spy on everyone during late modern era, everyone had at least 10 bombers/Stealth Bombers, but nobody had fighters/Jet Fighters/Stealth Fighters. The computer knows it doesnt work, it doesnt waste its money on fighters. But my governors still build the little craphead fighters? Hmmmm. Firaxis will PAY for my damages.
