I see there will be no fishery in civ3...good!In CTP there were fisheries(with the public work concept) and that sucked!!!
First,it's not realistic...there's no domestication of fishes...even with industrial fishing...it's luck...we can't know in advance if fishing will be good or not.
Then,people don't eat much fish...except in Japan.
And with the fisheries ,in CTP,it's very easy for a city to reach 145 or more and you can place about 90 scientists and 30 entertainers or many factory workers.
Firaxis is doing well with the settler and cultural systems.

Now you are wrong.
We, Chinese cook all sorts of fish... Not that I eat them.

Native Americans eat salmon and are dependant on them.

I dunno 'bout the others..

I read something on the newspaper yesterday.. The only reason that we, the Homo Sapien survived and the Apes didn't, its because we eat fish, and birds in addition to red meat and fruits.

I think it should be included

Damien, I have no argument about the way 'Fisheries' worked or didn't work in CTP (I've never been inspired to play the game) but you are wrong to say that the only people who eat alot of fish are the Japanese. Australian's eat alot of seafood (all sorts) and like the Canadian's we have Salmon and trout farms amongst other seafood industries.

I think the development of ocean resources could be better developed than they are in Civ2.

i said Japanese coz it's the best example...
of course we all eat fish but do you think we can domestic fishes as we did with cows?
No.In CTP fisheries brought much food,as much as the irrigations which is totally unrealistic. There's no control of fishing except in the last few years...indeed Japaneses and many other countries succeeded to make industrial fisheries but we r talking about tiles...even on a 100x100 tiles map...each tile represents 400km(about 260 miles). That's y i think it shoud stay with the civ2 system...consider fish as an amount of food like wheat.

We did in Newfoundland. It was the entire economy until 1992. Then (to put it simply) we ran out of fish, and our economy collasped. It has recovered with the discovery of Oil at Hibernia, Terra Nova, and White Rose. As well as hydro power development in the Lower Churchill river.....uhhh.....but of course no one cares.

My point is, is that fishery is a big part of civilization. But in Civ 3 it should be a bigger trade item than a food source (in modern times. While in acient times is should be more of a food source.) As most of the fish from Newfoundland was shipped to the Orient or New England. I lived there for 17 years and the most I ate was chicken. Then beef. I actually don't have a taste for fish. My father is a professional Fisherman, and 99.999% of his catch is sold. Very little is kept for food.....uhhh...again I'm on a rant.

Anyway....to reitterate. Fish should be food in anicent times, but moving toward a trade item in the later years. This would be cool. Where production/food/trade values for a resource would change over time. But it's probably too late for another feature to be added.
