No matter how hard I try, the Super Growth Strategy does not work!!!

A cheater?? Unnacceptable. He's probably got his rules.txt altered so that The Republic resembles a Fundamentalism with 800% science. No way you should use Rep. before Monarchy.

While I would normally take the time to point how stupid all of you are unfortunately I don't think you're even worth my time. Besides, I'm having far more fun on the apolyton forum at the moment. Once you guys actually start playing multiplayer games instead of single player then maybe we can have a forum war. Otherwise I don't think it would be fair to flame you now since you are completely outmatched.

To Hippo!!!

You can do that?????
No wonder one of my friends always plays monarchy, and is giving me a race all the way to the space race!!!
I am really glad nobody ever told me how to do stuff like that, that way I don't have to feel tempted.

In markusf's super growth strategy, it says when you reach monarchy, start irrigating, when you reach republic, you should have 15 cities with 15 settlers. Here's what I got AT BEST:

monarchy-2 settlers, 5 cities

republic-5 settlers, 12 cities (around 800 BC)

I only irrigate 2 cities at a time. I like to build up my cities 2 at a time to a HUGE size. Once 2 of them are size 20 they will produce as much stuff as all your others combined. Also remember i get trade before rep... I also don't go for monarchy first unless i am playing on diety.

He also said by the time you start researching republic, you should already have all tiles irrigated and roads. IMPOSSIBLE! I only have my cities connected by roads and a few irrigation!

How do you get so many cities and settlers so fast?
Do the years matter? eg have to turn demo by 300 AD

With a 4 player game with jes, jedi and smartfart i had 8 wonders, 30 cities and 30 settlars at 200 ad. including mikes, leos, theo. I was just ramping up to go into supergrowth when everyone surrendered. The thing with my strat is that when you get to rep or caravans you have 2 choices, go immediately into supergrowth mode, or divert all caravans to wonder building... with 5 cities producing a caravan every 4 turns you should crank them out pretty fast, with rush buying of course. If anyone pisses you off when in your in supergrowth you can buy them out... you should make $700/gold turn by 600-800 ad.

Smash all my examples are 7 player games, and that one 4 player game.

There's a question that's not been raised so far. And that is...
--- --- "Is this a SATISFYING strategy to play?" --- ---
To this question I have to say my answer is "No". Not for me. There's an artificiality to it which removes any real mirroring of how civilisations grow, especially in their early years. It feels like flailing about until suddenly, as I said, it all starts to kick in. So yes it does work, and trade-centred strategies are A Good Thing (tm), but for me it's not as much fun as other strategies, whether they're prefectionist or expansionist.

For me its good, i like taking on 6 allied civs at once. I mean how many players are there that can take on 6 allied civs ? I also like fielding a massive army and hitting multipul enemies at once. But at the same time this strat gives you such a huge production base, that by 900ad you should be getting 1 turn a tech at worst 2 turns, so you can build a spaceship before others get to railroad.

The picture you posted was from a duel with arii using the demonarchy government. You said so yourself.I'll dig up the thread at Poly if I have to.

The strategy is good. Its been around long before markus materialized. Its even covered in the manual. It is vulnerable though.Any strategy is I spose.

hmm i don't know which ones i posted. Most of the ones are from 4-7 player games..
the 2 images posted here are from a 5 player game and a 3 player. The one with the huge cities is a 5 player game with carnide and moker. If you look in the other thread you will notice i posted the game from the arri duel at 720 AD. I have industrialization and am 3-5 techs from automobile.

This strat is unbeatable, because you either put all the caravans into wonder building or growth... Either way you will slaughter any player who doesn't use it. To bad no players from the big games i am in are posting here.

I don't know how it is in multiplayer, but in duels it's a sure loss. You have to go straight republic.

ITs to hard if your playing diety and you don't get the HG wonder. your better off going monarchy with 30 % tax 70 science. That way you can take the gold every turn and rush buy settlars etc. If your playing on king level i would say always go rep. If you go rep in diety asap, you need 40% luxeries and 60% science just to keep all your cities happy.. you end up with the same science rate, but you lose out on production and cash...

I can easily meet the cities requirement, my irragation and roads need a little work. The tactic actually does work (but so then did OCC). Having large cities reduced research rates drastically in the early game.

oh ya tell me about it

even those 500-$600 gold a caravan also gives you a extra tech... This strat is ment for multiplayer though mostly.

I must seriously thank marcusffor this strat. I used this method and won king, with six opponents, highest barb and 181%, on my secind only attempt at playing king. This is the best strat I have come across in awhile

If you're on an island, you need to land settlers on another land mass ASAP (hopefully not another small island).

On the other hand.....If you're on a large continent I recommend the following.

1) Switch to Republic, then to democracy as soon as possible (they're the best peace-time governments).

2) Build 2 units to garrison your city (phalanx, pikemen, ect...).

3) Build settlers.

4) Venture out to establish a new city (I don't recommend spacing them out by more than 6 squares whenever feasible).

5) Repeat starting with step one.

Now, that leaves a lot of room for the unforeseen. Such as, oh I don't know. A war or race to build a wonder. Just remember that open range is key to fast growth....

Good luck!

island starts rock.

build only warriors in your city if your playing on diety. If you run into barbs build a second warrior and attack the incoming archer. There is about a 80% chance the barb archer will die on open ground.

With a island starts just crank out settlars and road everything and build up the island... At the same time get ships and move off settlars to nearby islands... ships move 3 squares so you can settle a lot of new land a LOT faster then you ever could if you where one a big landmass(exception being hut cities) One you have the settlars off the island set all the island cities to building carvans and rush buy caravans every turn.

The only problem I had with this strategy is that the AI opponent stole stuff way ahead of his tech tree and caught up. I ws really irritated when the Carthaginians stole Space flight and started to build Apollo Program when they did no even have Theory o' Gravity. But otherwise I consistently use this strategy and win

lol monarchy SUCKS. But in diety you need it if you want to expand fast and build a lot of wonders. on king always go for rep. if your playing 2x, monarchy is totally useless.
