I've just now had my computer updated by MS to have the Anniversary update and now none of the spoken word audio, ie, Sean Bean's intro's, tech and civics blurb or any AI leader dialogue is playing anymore.

In game sounds for actions and the music play perfectly well and no other issues I've noticed outside of Civ VI.

Anyone else seeing this?

Civ VI 1.0.0.38

Verified my install with Steam and nothing is missing.

Update:
The initial greeting from both Gandhi and Pericles are playing so I take this as an indicator that there are no internal software issues with either the codec or other audio sub-systems.
However this makes it more difficult to track down now as I was focusing on those things, perhaps a reinstall is needed. Steam didn't report any issues though so I don't know. Weird.

Well I've finally found the problem, and more importantly, the solution.
The issue is related to a driver update that affects Asus MBs using the Realtek sound chip. My MB, Maximus VII, is one of the affected ones and this page details the solution.

The 2K forums, and support site, were very poor in offering help mainly spouting generic options despite my detailed description and diagnostic files.
I actually stumbled upon the solution because I was playing another game and noticed a similar problem. This prompted me to look outside any Civ VI specific based solution and thus I was lead to my audio driver.

I'm still confused as to why 2 of the audio files mentioned above played and the rest didn't, maybe they are encoded in another format?

It's possible for systems with stereo speakers to end up misconfigured such that your left and right speakers are outputting the front left/front right of a 5.1 soundstage. For MP3s and YouTube and a lot of games that's not necessarily a huge problem. But Civ VI is designed for surround and so they output (most) voices to the 5.1 Center channel, with no content in the front left or front right. The solution is to make sure the Windows control panel is set to know that you only have stereo speakers, in which case it'll mix the 6 channels down to stereo.
