No tutorial?

From the main startup screen, click Advanced, and then Preferences. Make sure "Sid's Tips" is checked (and anything else you'd like), then go back and start a game. This will give you popup hints and suggestions, as I recall.
Also, the "mouse over" feature works on pretty much everything in the game, no matter what screen you're in. This alone gives a wealth of information, along with little hints on how to use things.
Lastly, the manual can come in handy (mostly for keyboard shortcuts lol).

There is a tutorial "Mod" in Vanilla Civ IV, but not the expansions. Play through the Vanilla tutorial to get the basics, then you can switch to BtS and pick up on the added "stuff."
Yeah, I have the Gold edition, and it definitely has a tutorial. Start Civilization 4, not Warlords. It's in the menu screen somewhere.
Very useful tutorial to go through quickly. The additional stuff for Warlords or BTS isn't in a tutorial, but it's generally too advanced for a tutorial anyway. Just read up on details in the Civilopedia.
