what do u do with none settlers in the early beginning?
say u have only 1 city

and am i the only one thinking that starting with 1 settler when ur friends starts with 2 is unfair?

If I start the game with 2 settlers, the first builds a city and the second will build a road if the first doesn't have any decent trade squares, then the second one builds a city.

If the first city has a decent square that generates trade, then the second settler builds another city right away (maybe building a road for the second city first).

The game gives extra settlers and techs for positions it feels are 'lower' than others in the game. The proximity to others as well as land size seems to be a main factor in that. The game is just trying to even things out.

I am The Settler from None. I love it, because it gives me projects to plan. However, I have learned two things here at CFC.
1) It is not very smart. Two cities are twice as productive as one. For example, they can build two settlers rather than just one.
2) You are more likely to get another Settler from None from a hut if you don't already have one, on the same continent iirc.

In Civ2 Democracy, Deity, we built two cities, RegiaCivitas, a road or two, then ThunderFalls. Later we got a None. It was far from home, so we built one Road then Marl Downs with it. Later we got another one, which we are keeping to make improvements in the capital area.

If you build cities with the none settlers, they will be the ancestors of a dozen cities or more ... two or three none settlers in the beginning are worth half an empire.
I don't keep them - I build cities.
And If would really need a NONE settler, I will get one whenever I want:
First method: I could bribe an AI settler.
Second method: I could found a city close to an AI civ and then disband the city by rush-buying a settler.

Remember that on Diety level, you always start with 2 settlers.

No wonder duke o' york chuckled at a comment I made in the GOTM 24 thread...

Guess I need to play on deity more often! :D

Thats why I always play on Diety. That second settler gives you a much better start. And, yeah, I usually use it to build a second city. one gets two, or two gets four. Which one do you think is best?

Anyway the most interesting strategy is to disband one Settler immediately :D .

Okay, so I think that I just figured out why you have named yourself as you did. :)

Marlos,
 fortunately I need not to feel as inferiorly as you think. I remember a thread at Apolyton where even more questionable technique was described: to press Ctrl-N and Enter up to 1AD.
What does ctrl-n do? I've never tried it, but have read somewhere that it could be used to make triremes unsinkable.

I meant Ctrl-N and Enter had been only keys pressed. That brilliant strategy is to wait simply up to 1AD.
I believe this particular challenge is known as a "Wait For Jesus" game or something like that. You don't do anything until 1AD and then try to catch up to the AI and still win at deity.

The principle that causes triremes/planes are unsinkable/uncrashable is not to make their last move. You can also press the spacebar (it ends the movement of the selected unit) when your trireme is selected.
For example: a trireme may go 2 squares into a deep water, but then you have to press the spacebar.

I know that won't work on MPG or 2.42, not sure if maybe it does on other versions. It has to be Ctrl+N.
