Just got CIV4, and FFH is awesome. So I got a few questions...bare with me if they are stupid ones. I HAVE read through tons of posts, and FAQ's already. So I'm sorry if any of these have been covered.

1) I got a death node, but Corlindale isn't getting death magic abilities?(I wanted to try the suggested LICH strategy thing)
2) I had a hidden courtesan attacking everything. I got a hawk and a devout stuff that can see stealth and hidden, but no matter what she was invisible? It felt like a bug to me?
3) Sometimes, and I've noticed this mostly WITH courtesam's. If I move her onto the city, the enemy units will randomly move one tile away. And i can then just capture the city. If I move here again, they will randomly go BACK onto the city. This is all SP modes(haven't touched MP yet)
4) I don't see how in the world I can build all these altars to win, because I just can't get all that types of mana? Can you build one alter? Then destroy your mana nodes, and rebuild the ones you need for another alter?
5) Why can some cities build certain units, upgrade certain units..and some can't. Even if I have the SAME building built within those cities?(religion or something maybe?)

I'm sure I'll think of more. Thanks!!!

I have hooked up 1 death node it only enables the promotion on level up. you would have needed 2 or more death nodes when building him to get the promotion for free.
(adepts get the free promotions on building, upgrading to mages and archmages)

Maybe the owner had nox nortis and was in his own borders?

I think your are talking about he towers?
And yes, you can use metamagic to change your mana after you build a specific tower.

Are you playing elohim? They got tolerant as trait and can build different units in capetured cities. Or as you guessed some units need religions.

1) Make sure you have necromancy tech. If you got the death node through an event or something before you got the tech, it won't be available. Also, if you are in overcouncil, it may have been banned by vote. Otherwise, wait until level up like the OP said. Although Corlindale doesn't seem like the kind of guy who would like to be a lich.

2) I think hawks may only be able to see hidden animals, not stealth units. Empyrium has a spell for seeing invisible.

3) Thats a bug that has been reported.

4) Metamagic tier 2 spell is dispel magic. Cast it on a node to reset it. You can also get mana types from holy cities and at least one wonder.

5) The Elohim treat each city as if it was its original civ. So if you capture a sheaim city, for example, you won't be able to upgrade to champion, but could build planar gates.

I'm also a noob in need of help, so I hope you don't mind if I wade in with a question or two cdogg. Is there a thread similar to the 'Quick Answers / 'Newbie' Questions' one for the unmodified game?

Anyway my first question is regards to a barbarian archer with strength 3/5. Why does he have two values for strength? Also, what does '+1 poison' refer to? And why is he and a goblin just sitting in their fort and ignoring my open city? They don't move at all but I don't know whether I can risk moving my units out to explore :D .

Some units, like archers, have a an offensive strength (the first one) and a defensive strength(the second number).

Barbarians are set to guard their important places, so will keep a few units on the fort. They spawn new units frequently, so don't leave your city undefended. Once you kill them, you can explore the fort, which can give you some good or bad things and destroy the fort. Or you can leave it and use it as an xp farm.

+1 poison is an extra point of strength from poison. If you have poison resistance, you will be resitant to that one point of strength. Anyone surviving a fight against poison strength will be poisoned until they begin a turn at full strength.

Another note about the goblin forts, if you are a Barbarian civ (Charadon with Doviello, the Clan of Embers, or the Infernals) you can purchase goblins at the fort.

The archer line, some of the mounted line, catapults, assassins, and some heros and other specialty units have split strengths.

When you are on top of a ruin, fort, or other explorable thing, a button will come up at the bottom with the other activities. It is yellowish and I think looks like someone fighting a small dragon. You may have to have a movement left to click it, I don't remember.

Enjoy the mod:)

I have a really unbusy day at work today, and don't feel like being productive, so feel free to ask as many questions as you like.

Grey fox reminds me, if you have barbarian trait, you can't explore.

I have ALL techs, im like at turn 900 just doing future tech. Corlindale has leveled several times, and I'm at war with the overcouncil because i defied their "ban death magic". I'm actually quite huge and just trying to win by LAND %...seems like the fastest way. But I can't get death magic upgrades to come up? I've also built mages, imps...nobody is getting death magic? And i can SEE my death node =/

It sounds like it may be a bug in the "defy resolution" option. I would post it in the bug thread. Make sure you state that you have met all the other requirements or people will jump all over you.

Is it showing up in the mana bar as you having access to death mana? Just incase of the obvious, I assume you have got a route connecting your node? :P

that's right, I often forget to build a road on mana nodes :D

btw imho they should not require a route to grant you mana... magic doesn't need roads, does it? ;)

OK. I don't know what I did. But my death mana node dissapeared. I just rebuilt another one, and now Corlindale can use death mana. I have no idea what happened or why it dissapeared, it may actually have destroyed itself because of the overcouncil? thanks to everyone though, i'm sure ill have more questions later.

Think I figured out my workers keep destroying my nodes? How do i avoid this?

Go into your options, and tick "Automated workers leave old improvements"

With the Illians I was able to build Jav Throwers without building Archer Ranges, Newest patch (h)

Is that intended? If so, what is the point of archer ranges? (10% defense?)

Ah yes - do this right away. Full worker control is crucial in Civ.

Edit: Oh I thought he said stop your workers from being automated, forget what the option says exactly. Anyways, please don't use automated workers :) . Well after a few games you will realise you don't want them anyway.

It is a little confusing. I don't think Javelin Throwers need the Archery Range (hmmm, maybe because they use javelins?), but other civs must have them to build their basic Archers.

I like to play all the different civs - I let the computer randomly select who I will play. I am always finding out new things with the civs when I didn't play them for awhile and there have been new features, patches, etc.

I had the same question when I played the Illians for the first time. I think xienwolf in his sig file has the best documentation material that answers most questions. Download that. The Civilopedia is lacking but will be updated someday when everything has settled down.

Re: missing nodes.

There is a random mana-remover bug in the game, I have noticed it a few times. In my latest game for example I had two ice mana (illian palace + that unique feature that gives the ice mana). Everything was fine until I recieved a suggestion to explore that paticular unique feature, and my extra ice mana was removed for the rest of the game.

This kind of thing usually happens every second game. It's no big deal: just conquer a little and make some new mana nodes. I see it as natural gradual mana-diminishment; but perhaps the same sort of thing happened to your death node.
