You can also use the Right Mouse Button to move units around; i.e. press the button over an adjacent square and the unit will move onto it.
Painfully time-consuming, I agree, but useful if NumLock isn't an option!
My laptop is lacking num block too, so I bought a USB num pad. They are cheap. I can also use a special mode on my keyboard to substitute a numpad, but it's inconvenient.
You just need to press any key (it can be the space bar or other key) to skip the intro. Depending on your computer speed it may take less or more time to produce the desired effect. After any key has been pressed the Intro will stop as soon as the world map is complete.
