Noob Question - Multiplayer Player Limits?

I'm hoping this question has a simple answer. My friend and I are trying to play a multiplayer game with AI. However, even on the biggest maps, it won't allow more than 8 members. What am I doing wrong?

I don't know.

I just had a quick look and when I choose a huge map, it allows me a total of 12 players.
Although it does say warning! Unsupported number of players, but it does allow me to play, nonetheless.
Mind you, it's still a lot less than the 22 one would normally have in a game on a huge map.

Thank you for your reply. My friend and I started a game with the warning and it appeared that it only put one other team of two in the game instead of the four teams.

Multiplayer games across the Internet with 8 humans are dicey to begin with, there is lots of lag and the reloading screen will pop up about every 15-20 moves from my experience. 6 seems to be the max right now where the game will run smoothly. I have completed a few 4x4 games, but we often had to put up with about an 8 second delay from when u click on a unit to when it moves.

I have played 5-6 8 player games with little to no lag or re-syncs it all depends on the hosts upload speed and the location and pings of other players. If any player has ping to another above say 150ms or more you are right silver they wont run smooth.
