[NOT A BUG] Are UA broken?

Yesterday I was playing as Japan. Two barbarian warriors were revealed when scouting next to each other, so I thought no problem, as I have a decisive chance to win, and Japans UA would allow me to defend the other at full strength, but the second Barbarian made light work of my warrior...

Today I tried Hiwatha, and even thought I'm in an area which is dense with forest, my warriors can move the standard two squares per turn... even though I triple checked the squares were forest/jungles...

Am I doing something wrong or is there something not quite right with the above?.. I have no mods installed.



Shouldnt the above be less than one move as roads allow 3 squares movement per turn?

Iroquois UA works only in your own borders.

Japan UA - you still take full damage from enemies. As in, if you have 6v6 CS, even if you always fight at full strength you can always take 4 and then 6 damage, 5 and then 5 damage, or, in special cases, 3 and 7 damage in order for your unit to die.
