I made this post cause I could not find any thread that discusses the nuclear option.

I personally do not use nuclear weapons in first strike capacity, only as a response to a strike by the enemy. If any of you have any stratedgy or stories from games you`ve played I`d love to hear it. I would like to hear how you use tactical nuclear weapons and all...

i always knock out there nukes first.....with para's or marines and incase of dire war..i use nukes too fight nukes..take em out with my nukes:D ..this often reacts in war with everyone..but i make enough nukes...mainly defence

In modern warfare, I usually use a spy to see troop locations, and nuke concentrations of units. Good chance of reducing his army, especially with multiple strikes.

Shut up moonsinger, you post too much.....
Does anyone know how to make happy faces?

Dude, he (or is moonsinger a she?) is just informing people of a viable strategy, that's fun to do! Why post in a thread just to tell someone to shut up?

Anyway, I use nukes when I'm playing a conquest game.

when I reach the point where I can take on the remaining AI civs combined, and I'm playing conquerer, I freely use nukes. Mostly because I'm starting to get bored and I don't want to build the army of tanks necessary to conquer. Try it! it's very satisfying punishing the AI for their insolence. :D

A few nukes never hurt a Conquest win, and obviously are a BAD idea for Diplomatic wins, they can have uses in other victory types.

Find yourself behind in a Space Race? Find out where an opponent's component is being constructed and nuke it. At worst, you can slow them down.

Need to reduce global population in order to trigger a diplomatic win? A good ICBM spread never hurts.

A favorite tactic of mine is a nice little border spray. Nuke every city on a national border you share, then sweep in for the cities. Raze every other one. Sacrifice half of the ensuing workers in cities you keep to rush temples/libraries whatevers cheap to trigger border expansion. Shift-A the rest to clean up the pretty orange.

Also, when there's a continent I'm not on that has 3+ civs, I bribe the coastal powers into an alliance against whoever's in the middle, and then nuke the hell out of them. The others provide the ground troops and it softens up the whole continent whlie I build a second spread to bury them all with!

Try this with nukes: Declare war- Wait for the enemy to mass troops for invasion- nuke them and use units to finish them off.

1. Nukeing strategic reasources can be far more effective then hitting cities.

2. Use fighters to recon for nukes.

3. Try to hit workers with the intended target in order to slow repairs. (it does kill them}

ok, nuke ONE city, wait for a helluva lotta workers to clean pollution, reroad, re mine, etc. Nuke again for the worker kill mentioned by lord42 :)

Indeed, killing workers helps more then killing units in nuke warfare as it helps slow the reconstruction of roads and slows the enemy.

Yeah! 100th post!

Good blizgrieg is to not nuke enemy cities directly, but the tile next to them. Road/railroad connection still remains in the otherside and you can fast move yout troops in and beyond to the next city. I was surprised how many cities I was able to taken in single turn. =)

I was playing a game on a Standard size map of the Earth and controlled all of Europe and a chunk of North Africa. I had eliminated all but two civs., the Americans (in America) and the Aztects (in Aztecia... ok... not really, South America). I had lots of time before mandatory retirement and wasn't sure how I wanted to win, I could have pulled it off using any method. So I decided to go Conquest... :)

I gathered a massive amount of Modern Armors and litterally raized America to the ground. By that point, I had a large reserve of ICBMs and decided that it would be far more fun to drop them on the Aztecs then watch them collect dust in Nuclear Silos.

In that war, I dropped approximately 50 ICBMs (I counted). I blanketed all of South Africa in radiation and ended up just nuking random hillsides due to a lack of targets. In the end, I destroyed every Aztec city and won easily. I had a very good time doing it. In retrospect, I have realized that the true purpose of Nukes is to make the game a hell of a lot more fun!! :)

Interesting way of counting:p. :crazyeye: To know how many you used just take a look of your icbms on the military (f3) advisor screen under the units, and not cities view, and then look again after you launch however many you do.

Here's a thing - on nuclear warring.

Send about five modern armor units, park them right next to a city. Make sure they have movement points. Launch a tactical and hit the city. Most of the units in that city will be crippled, if not killed. Run over them with your modern armor - chances are, they'll survive.

Sometimes I have emptied a whole city of units - easy to run over them :)

Also there's nuclear terraforming - moonsinger pointed to a thread "converting ocean to grassland/plains/desert". I just posted an article about how to terraform - river terraforming: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?threadid=49478

here's a better idea then hbdragon's, but very similiar.

Take some modern armor, and park them 2 tiles away from the city. Make sure they have two movement left--or 3. Nuke the city. Enter with the tanks.

This way you have all the tanks alive, and at full health. Otherwise there's a significant chance you wouldn't have taken the city.

I think the better wording would be "Here's the exact same idea as hbdragon's, but better" ;)

Usually they're so weak anyway I can roll over them. Or if I'm lucky, the city will be vacant and I can roll right in.
