Nuke Question

No - it is rather frustrating, because you can't always figure out who launched the first nuke (and who therefore deserves to be destroyed -- not so much because nukes are bad, but because now you have to deal with ridiculous amounts of global warming ;)).

I have spotted an AI-AI nuclear exchange in a couple of different ways. Generally, first hint comes when, on the world map, I see a suspicious disappearance of city improvements -- I then investigate the city or cities in question, and surprise! polllution surrounds the city and its pop is starving. I then confirm a nuclear exchange (...)

The suggestion of a pop-up window in this case was send by me to the add/on xp suggestions thread. Very bad that we have to search for nuclear exchange. I hope those Firixians will change that soon as possible.

JUST DO IT!!!!!!! :aargh3: :whipped:
:D

here's my own personal experience with nukes, firswt i don't build tactica nukes, just icbm's, i build probably 8 before using any, then I blow the hell outta anyone who declares war on me, I think that if the other person declares war its ok to nuke them. i've done it in a couple of games and its been all right, the only thing i ran into was when it would kill some other civs units then they would delare war.(no I wasn't allied with any civ at the time)

I've never been a huge fan of nukes in Civ, in most of the games it has just ended it and made it generally unpleasant to play.

Nukes do cause a bit of unhappiness against you and generally the AI likes to gang up on you if you get powerful enough in order to try and take you down.

I don't even find Nukes that fun to use. One time the Zulu's declared war on me, he was using Infantry and Cavalry, I was on Future tech. I laid waste to their civ with 8 ICBM's - one for each city. No-one gave me any gump for the rest of the game. But all that pollution to clean up *sigh*

In my last game I was at war with the French, and was at peace with all 7 other civs, no allys. I dropped the first nuke on Joan, they all went to annoyed or worse. With the second dropping, 2 of them declared war on me. With the 3rd, they all did. :( The only other country that had nukes only had 1 ICBM, and they dropped it on my capital. It didnt destroy my spaceship though. :) So I launched all my ICBMs (about 60 or so.... I usually get nukes way before everyone else, and I like to have a large stockpile for a "deterrent" )

After pretty much every AI city above 12 was destroyed, I launched my spaceship and still won. :) This was on regent level.

what do really happen if you drop a nuke at a city? besides pollutions arround the city?

When you nuke a city their is a dice roll on everything. Every unit in a city must make a dice roll against immediat destruction, then a dice roll for the amount of damage it takes if it lives; then the population must take a dice roll against how many people die. Also all terain surronding the nuked area is reduced, all improvements destroyed, grassland becomes plains, not sure for plains, desert, or tundra though. I have never paid attention when nuking these terrains.

On one of my first times that I played the game, I got a nuke and bombed somebody. Not a good idea when I was playing with about 15 other civs. About 13 of them declared war on me and I decided to quit because I knew I couldn't win. (I had a very small military.)

you can also use nukes to quell civil disorder!Just nuke the city with the civil disorder.Voila!everyone is radioactive and the resistance is over!

This situation just happened to me.

As India, I controlled most of all of the Americas except for a few small cities in Alaska. I'm well ahead of everyone else, but most everyone is on future techs (I'm just dragging out the game the for some reason).

Everyone is furious with me, so in 1980, I decided to try and goad someone into something, so I run an espianoge mission on the Aztecs to expose a mole... he caught me and declared war. Next thing I know, I've got about 10 inbound ICBMs, but the SDI takes out 8 of them so only the tip of Florida and the middle of Brazil get hit... weren't even two big cities, so the damage was more of an annoyance and an excersize for my workforce to clean up.

Naturally, all remaining civs declare war which frees me to respond with a volley of 24 ICBMs toward Australia. Monty neglected to have a SDI so every city of size >9 got fried... (every city of the continent got hit as well as some cities in the islands of Indonesia...)

So, the AI can nuke if provoked. They were third in histograph and were pretty close behind me and Egypt most of the game...

Well the human player can be notified of nuclear exchnages. just use your spies unless your too cheesy and cheap to cough up the money. I have nver been nuked, but I wiped out entire civs with ICBM's. The only thing that bothers me is that the uranium runs out fast, therefore limiting the amount of nukes you can prodice. Out of one soarce of uranium I have only been able to produce about 15 nukes. You do really need several soarces close to your productive cities to have an all out nuclear war.
