I do! I just love to nuke some of those grand AI naval stacks. They are something like useless against cities, though, because of SDI.:D :nuke:

See the thread entilted "Nuclear Question" gfor more opinions on this topic.

I don't really like Nukes in Civ2. The whole concept really just ends the game.

Firstly the fact that everyone can build them once someone builds the Manhattan Project is bs. In a close race where everyone is ganged up against you (and chaeating) its the kiss of death for your hard worked game.

I only uise Nukes if I need to get to a city i just cant breach. But with Howitzers, Stealth Bombers and battleships, there is hardly a city that can't be hit without using a Nuke.

I don't like the pollution it causes, however that can be countered by sending 3-4 engineers with you, it is a pain to clean up, esp if the AI is picking your settlers off.

INSTEAD, I decided to remove the power of the nuke in Civ2. I changed the attack to 50, so it no longer causes pollution and the like, it is just a giant cruise missile. However, I also reduced the shield requirement to about 40 over a cruise missile to make it mroe affordable. So, if your gonna build Nukes they are merely another powerful weapon. But you still need to rely on strategy to win.

I know it might sound stupid, because it has nothing to do with strategy or the game itself, but I only use nukes if someone uses them against me first... I kinda don't even like the idea of nuking the city or bunch of units, I mean in real life, so that's the way I do it

I usually try to avoid Nukes completely for the simple fact that the AI does not discriminate when it comes to Nukes. They will nuke anything and EVERYTHING, a game you were winning handily can be turned around on you very quickly once Nukes come into play.

If the AI showed a little discretion(sp?) in using nukes, maybe I'd consider them but the way the AI works in Civ2 the risks outweigh the benefits.

Very much so. In OCC games with my superior science lead, I am careful not to gift techs that precede Nuclear Power and are prerequisites for the Manhattan Project.

I will usually put just one ICBM in a backwater city that will probably not be the first AI target, but I use Tactical Nukes instead, because I use them against units, not cities. Id rather keep the cities intact, you know. Ah, the joy of fleet nuking, 25 detroyers, a Battleship, soon only 7 destroyers, heavily damaged. No Battleship in sight. Also against those huge unit stacks near your borders, of maybe 30 tanks.

OOPS, thought it was Civ 3 you were talking about:o .

I usually put subs off the coast of my enemies and load them with atleast 5 nukes each. The AI is stupid when it comes to using nukes. It would be better if the AI had a grasp of MAD(Mutual Assured Destruction) so they wouldn't just go around slinging nukes.

Yes. Although this has been covered many times in AI stupidities. Off course you ask yourself what would you prefer? Them trying to nuke a protected city or attacking a non defended city?

I find that by the time I get to building the Manhattan project, I'm way ahead of anyone else. I don't normally attack much in the end game, just concentrate on building my spaceship - however when a civ has just destroyed a load of freight in a sneak attack, I sometimes bomb the c*** out of them in a fit of rage, then reload and attack them conventionally. Keeps my blood pressure down :)
