So I'm cranking along into the late AA, Thebes has four wonders in it, already a monarchy, researching currency, and my fourth border expansion pops a goody hut on a 3-tile island just off the coast. What do I get?

Memphis :p

The blinkin' hut turned into a size 4 city and immediately starts to riot, lol. First time I've ever had it happen, and it had to happen on an OCC! So is there a clause in the OCC rulebook that allows that to happen and the OCC to remain legit for scoring purposes? :crazyeye:

You can abandon it. But, it's also *your* game. So, you get to decide here. Players have refferred to strict OCC which means only one city in the game. A looser OCC version allows for only one city *on the end of the turn* (so you could capture three cities on the same turn and build an army if you like). There also exists OBC where you can only build one city, but you can have as many as you like as long as you capture them or pop them from a hut. You make the call here, since it's your game. Oh... and you do plan to become a Republic, right? And have you got Conquests yet? It's really better for OCCs.

Pretty much what Spoonwood said. There are no fixed "Rules" for OCC. I think nearly everyone realizes that you might pop a city from a hut, or "accidentally" flip an AI city. The most strict observers would say you should abandon them *immediately*, but most would say it's okay to leave them till the end of the turn.

But, in the end, it's your game. Do as you wish. :)

haha very true... yeah I let it riot until I could get some troops out to it and bonk the toublemakers on the noggin to make them behave. I could've abandoned it but I did just what Spoonwood said and made it an OBC. Ravenna flipped to my control a bit after that so I ended up with three cities and switched to republic once securing some happy resources and building up some cathedrals.

Just too bad Rome was brimming with Praets... and I got caught with no iron :(

At any rate, it was just a surprise to see the goody hut become a city more than anything. I'd heard it was possible but in 5 years of playing civ3 I'd never seen it :p And no, no conquests yet. I'll put the explaination in emoticon form:

me --> :assimilate: <-- Civ 4 BtS

Under preferences, make sure to mark "cancel friendly moves". That way, it gives you the settler, instead of immediately founding a city when you pop a hut.

^ Settlers and free towns are entirely different hut results. For instance, in GOTM, free settlers have been replaced by free workers, but free towns are still a possible outcome.

I've had a lot of luck popping settlers from huts lately... I even did that on another OCC I played just recently, but because I wanted to play it as an OCC I sent him back home and settled in the city. Non-expansionist tribe, too... I think it was Babylon.

Even popped a settler from a hut 2W of Rome with my worker in the last game I started. 4 turns into the game Veii was founded... which almost sorta made up for all the jungle around. I'm still subjugating the rest of my continent with stacks of Legionaries as we speak.
