My folks got me a new CPU for Christmas. No speakers or monitor, just the CPU, keyboard, and mouse. I don't mind, because our monitor is new and I haven't had any problems with my speakers.
I have the speakers plugged into the correct inlet, but they're echoing-- badly. The best I can get them is by saying my speakers are 5.1 in the Control Panel-- but I doubt they're that , because the system they came from was manufactured in '98.
Th speakers are from "Polk Audio", but I can't find anything other than that. Volume control does nothing. My previous system was Windows 98 SE-- did something involving sound control change in between the versions? (Current version is XP)

Never mind. Finally found it. "Sound Effect Manager" had the Enviroment set to "Stone Room".
(Why in the world would anyone want echos?)
