I was playing a game and had a great empire on a continent and a rival empire was on another continent. They had one city way out on a penninsula. My city was doing so well that their city defected to my empire stating that they admired my culture (or something to that effect).

It was really cool. A whole city just left to come my way. Anyone have this happen to them? Anyone know how to make it keep on happening?

In Civ II?

Yes! It was really cool. I was playing and all of a sudden, a city that was the quite far from the rival's palace suddenly defected to my empire, changed colors and everything. They apparently "envied" me or something to that effect and changed over.

It was cool. I guess that satellite cities far from their palace can defect.

I have the gold edition and also the Fantastic Worlds. I cannot remember if I have the test of time or not. I also hav ethe multiplayer version.

I don't suppose you have a save game of this right before or after it happened. Maybe it's a chieftain-level thing.

Considering 'culture' isn't part of the game in civ2, but you can get a message almost exactly like that from Civ3, let's just say I'm highly skeptical.

Its been a long time since Chieftain level, but, IIRC, it does not happen there. I believe the only known place it happens is in Civ3. I have been playing civ2 since I transitioned from Civ, and I have never seen this happen.

It happened many years ago and I wish I had a screenshot but that woulod prove anything. (I could just copy and paste one city onto another).

I wish I could show it again. I simply don't know how to do it.

OMG this happened to me. I played Civ II years ago when i was like 7-10 years old. (im now 17)

I Always had it in chieftan and i remember something like that happening. I simply got a free city from the enemy. I had a very happy civilization with lots of luxuries btw.

this wasnt gold or multiplayer version of civII

In Civ I the version for Amiga or Mac or on some other platform than PC this happened regularly.
